I have a 4 year old son having PDD-NOS. Like to try SCD but as

vegetarians and rice is our main food. Plus, my son cannot chew food

(and so it is easier for him to swallow. Any idea what type of grain

can he eat that is SCD legal.

Thanks in advance.

No grain is SCD legal, It does state that clearly in the book that is required

for the diet,

" Breaking the Visious Cycle. " However we can emulate grain by baking with nut

flour,

preparing cauliflower to taste like rice, making " crackers " from cheese etc..

It will be more difficult to follow the diet as a vegetarian and you should

consider all this

carefully before attempting SCD.

However if you do decide to try we will do our best to give you support.

There are no SCD legal grains.

I am concerned about the chewing issue. Digestion begins in the

mouth. If he is not chewing his food, but swallowing it in chunks and

pieces, it is likely that he is putting a lot of stress on his system

to break the food down completely in his stomach.

The best solution for a child who does not chew would be to puree the

food, not to let him swallow it.

If you do not consume eggs or dairy, I don't think SCD will work out

for you. I think it is virtually impossible to follow a vegan diet

while followng the SCD guidelines.
