Dear ,

All my panc problems started within a year of my gallbladder

being taken out. They started like you described, off and on in the

beginning. Painful days followed by complete pain free days. Then

the pain free days got less and less until I was in constant pain.

So yes, a panc problem can start off like this, mine did. Hope you

get some answers when you see your MD. And by the way, none of my

pancreas problems EVER show up on tests. The only way they finally

found out what was wrong was by going in, ERCP. Good luck and let

us know how your appointment goes.

Love,

: Thank you so much for your reply. What sort of pain? Mine

is in my ribs mostly on right side, but also on left side radiating

to my back. I finally got an appt this afternoon with a gastro doc

(different than the one I've been seeing which I was none too

thrilled with).....please let me know, I'd be very interested to see

exactly where location of your pain was/is. Also, no elevated

enzyme levels? That's what keeps happening to me so they don't

think it's pancreatitis.......

It seems that it is more than a coincidence of Pancreatitis diagnosed after

Gallbladder removal.. I had my gallbladder removed in Jan of 2001. I was

admitted for 1st panc attack March 2001. I have slowly gotten worse. I was

told my gall bladder wasn't functioning either. Well 3 years later I am in

constant pain. I take OxyContin for pain and oxycodone for breakthrough pain.

My pain started under my rt ribcage and come to think of it I had the pain in

the same area prior to gallbladder removal. My pain now is mainly rt side and

back in kidney area. I had been on a liquid diet after a recent panc attack and

after it passed I was told to go back to a regular diet. I was told if I didn't

tolerate a regular diet I would have to have an ERCP. Well I couldn't tolerate a

reg diet and now am back on the liquid diet. I hated to call the doctor because

I knew what he would say. I have an appt. in 2 months and I was told I could

stay on the diet till then but will have to have the dreaded ERCP.

You know the symptoms you are having the normal enzymes, the gall bladder

removal and so on. Have you had alot of ct and MRI scans? Mine were always

normal and the only way I was truly diagnosed is by and ERCP. Where do you

live? I ended up seeing 2 GI doctors and 3 admissions before I was referred the

my doctor I see now. He specializes in ERCP therapy. I know you are probably

frustrated but be persistent and hopefully you will get the answer to you

symptoms. You have found wonderful group here. I don't know what I would have

done if I didn't have the people here.

Take care

Hi, I too have been suffering with pain and attacks since having my

gallbladder out 6 years ago. I have been diagnosed with SOD with

high pressure in the bile and panc ducts. I also have celiac

disease. My original pain was always right sided, middle of sternum

and also in the back. My pain now is mostly left sided and spreads

across to the right side and around my back on the left side. An

ERCP is the only way to diagnose SOD but if you are living with

daily pain then I would definetly seek out a good GI specialist. I

don't know where you are located, but if you need a referral I am

sure that many members on this board are happy to give you that

information. I personally would recommend Dr. Lehman in Indiana.

They have an excellent ERCP clinic there and that is what they

specialize in. I hope you are feeling better soon.
