Joe,

Can't give you any scientific info. I can tell you that Eilish was

treated aggressively for over 12 months (in 3 monthly cycles). Each

time the PA showed up it was hit hard again. Now she hasn't cultured it

for a few years. So we feel that the aggressive treatment was good for

her. Not to say it wont rear its ugly head again. She is having a

bronchoscopy and hsp. admission for IV's on Tuesday and were hoping that

they don't find it deep down. But if they do then its aggressive

treatment again.

Abby's culture

I just wrote a long posting and lost it which has me ticked. It was

just informing the list that Abby's culture grew " a few Proteus

miribilis and a few non-mucoid Pseudomonas aeruginosa. "

This is no surprise to us since she cultured it twice this summer via

throat which prompted a bronchoscopy which revealed no Pa in her

lungs.

She did culture it via bronch at 5 mos. and was treated with IV

tobra, timentin and Tobi for 14 days, although it took several days

for them to establish a high enough blood level of the drugs. So the

two possible scenarios are: They never eradicated it and it's the

same bug OR she just has the right mucous for Pa and it is inevitable.

We now are waiting for the team to discuss possible strategies. I am

wide open for a full blown course of IV and Tobi if they suggest.

I'd like to hear from any of you around the world who may have had or

are having a similiar situation. I want to know how other doctors

treat this stuff and how successful they are. I have read plenty of

abstracts that suggest early and aggressive treatment of non-mucoid

Pa can at least delay the onset of mucoid Pa. I am interested in

hearing from anyone with an opinion on this. Thanks.
