Guest guest
Hello everyone. I have a question for everyone. The Duragesic Patch that everyone is on how long does it last everyone? They say to change it every 72 hrs but with me I am wearing it for 48 hrs and it is running out. I think it is because I am always hot and almost running a fever so the medicine runs out faster. Everytime I get admitted to the Hospital and I recieve my meds Dilaudid 8mg IV and other meds and the Patch they will not change it every 48hrs only 72. I try to tell them that I change it every 48 because the medicine doesnt last and they start saying well the Law states this and that and by the time the end I am so agrivated I just want to strangle them. So my question to everyone is how long does the Duargesic Patch last for you. And also what BT meds works best for you? Because for some strange reason I am on Dilaudid 8mg now every 4 hrs and it seems not to work. I started on 2mg and now am on 8mg but the Pain doc is saying that this is the strongest and is the best and if anything we will have to go down on the pain meds and I dont want to do that so I was wondering is it that im taking the Generic or is it that I should try something else. Please get back to me and let me know thanks... Gio
Guest guest
After reading your letter, I realized what you are experiencing is called tolerance. It is probably time for the Dr. to change your meds, which will give your system a break from that specific drug. This is normal our body gets accustomed to the chemicals and after a while our liver will just excrete it, somewhere in the range of 65% of the meds. I am not sure about any state law regarding Duragesic, nurses can only administer pain medication as it is ordered , it is the physician that you need to talk to we nurses have NO control, all we can do is ask and if they say no to us, you pay your Dr. most nurses in hospitals are employees of the hospital, not employees of the Dr. ususally if you don't like your Dr. the nurses probably don't like him either, if he acts like a jerk to you he usually acts like a jerk to the staff too. Your pain management Dr. should be aware of narcotic tolerance, and liver hyperexcretion.

Guest guest
Gio, I used to take Dilaudid tablets at home, but find they don't do much for me...however through my IV, Dilaudid is the only pain med that helps me. Guess it's just how it enters the system as to how it best works
