Guest guest
Lynn, <<We all (even those of us doing this only for " support " ) alternate between constipation and diarrhea. No rhyme or reason, just happens.>> Is this just since you started SCD? Or was this going on before? I was just wondering if this is something new. Did you do the intro diet? Are you using an acidophilus supplement (since it appears that you are not using SCD yogurt)? It is CRITICAL that you do... or yeast will just opportunistically take over the space that any dying bacteria leave behind. You absolutely must re-populate the gut with good flora, and keep supplying that. I don't know what to tell you about the urine smell. Since you say that started before your son started SCD, it is probably due to something else not SCD related. I know that eating asparagus can cause that for anyone, but you don't list that as a food he has been eating. Alternating between constipation and diarrhea definitely means none of you have balanced gut flora or well-functioning digestion going on. Of course, you would not expect miracles within such a short time, but it does seem odd that you say there have not been any negative symptoms (except for this alternating C & D) and no improvement. Please let me know what supplements you're taking and answer the questions I asked at the beginning. Oh.... and what are you doing for the c.difficile? Patti 2 weeks SCD; questions! Hi all, We have just completed two weeks and I have questions... We all (even those of us doing this only for " support " ) alternate between constipation and diarrhea. No rhyme or reason, just happens. Tonight my 9 yr old son told me his urine smells awful. Any idea why that might be? He said this has been for about the last three weeks, since right after he came home from a 5-day camp and shortly before we started SCD. Unless the alternation between c and d is a symptom of die-off, we really have not seen any. Shouldn't we have seen some by now? Two of the boys have high yeast, per OAT test, and one of those same ones has c.diff., which I know is not eradicated by SCD. Anyway, we are frustrated that we've been at it for two weeks with no apparent change at all, whether in bowel symptoms or behavior. Any ideas?? Here's what we are eating: eggs, chicken, beef, zuccini, butternut squash, green beans, spinach, carrots, mustard, olive oil, butter, homemade applesauce, bananas. All of it is prepared according to stage one rules; just added the squash two days ago so I guess we've started moving into stage two a tiny bit. I've checked all our supplements and they seem to all be legal. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Guest guest
Patti, We did two days of intro diet. The diarrhea only started since starting SCD. We are all taking acidophilus supplements and plan to start the yogurt soon but my understanding was we should wait 3 or 4 weeks for it...? I am giving S. Boulardi to the child with the c.difficile (4yr old). That is not the same child that is complaining about the strong urine smell (ASD 9yr old). As to the timeframe on the strong smell, it is hard for him to know exactly. My husband commented on it being since starting SCD so I am not sure exactly how long. If it is indeed since starting ASD, do you know what could cause it? Supplements (given to all three children unless otherwise specified; all of these are unflavored except the lemon flavor in the cod liver oil): Carlson's cod liver oil-lemon flavor New Beginnings multi New Beginnings antioxident New Beginnings P5P/Magnesium (9yr old and 4yr old only) Swanson's Evening Primrose Oil gel capsules Kirkman's acidophilus Kirkman's S.Boulardi (for the 4yr old only) Kirkman's unflavored calcium powder New Beginnings zinc (ASD child only) Swansons coQ10 (9yr old and 4yr old only) Thank you for any help you can give! Guest guest
You only need to wait on the yogurt for those of you who were off all dairy previous to SCD. Otherwise, it's okay from the start. I am not exactly sure on some of those supplements. I know they don't *seem* to have illegals.... but I've not heard of the New Beginnings ones before. I looked briefly at their website and they do seem okay.... though I didn't look at every single one in detail. I did notice that the antioxidant contains pine bark extract.... I am honestly not sure on it's legality. Also, it says the beta-carotene is derived from sea algae. Now... we know that algae in any form is not SCD legal... but I realise they are just extracting the nutrient from it... not including the algae in the product. I don't know.... for *some* families, I just think it's sometimes best to pull all the supplements for a short while, if they're using a lot of them.... get the diet off to a good start and then add them back, slowly, one at a time, later. I know you hate to stop the supps if you think they're helping.... but honestly, if you're having difficulty, you might have to consider removing as many variables as possible.... just for a little while. I don't know... it's just my instinct, since you're not seeing much change or improvement. I'm glad you're using the s.boulardii for the clostridia. That's what I would have suggested. The weird urine smell is most likely from bacterial die-off if it started after you started SCD. Patti Re: 2 weeks SCD; questions! Patti, We did two days of intro diet. Guest guest
Thanks Patti! I'll think on the supplements issue. Otherwise I guess we just keep plugging away and hope something works...
