Guest guest
Well Kristy is heading back into hospital early Dec for sinus surgery, not even two years since her last. I can't remember who started talking about it on here but thanks so much for the idea of Pulmozyme via a mask instead of a mouthpiece. Kristy's doctor agreed to this, however, it doesn't seem to have been of much benefit to date, I guess her sinuses are just too clogged up. Added to that she feels nauseous constantly (probably due to post nasal drip) and has had some episodes of reflux too....all new to her! Kristy's biggest fear atm is being placed in a specific ward in the hospital (she's much more concerned about this than the surgery) after a rather negative experience there in the past. Have any other parents here experienced this type of thing with their children? I would also add I was with Kristy in this ward and I was the one who asked for us to be moved....so I also have conflicting feelings about it. I think it's great they have a special ward for 12 - 18 year olds, but there is a huge degree of age difference/maturity there and Kristy is a very young 13. I have discussed this briefly with the clinic nurse and she suggested Kristy talk to their psychologist whilst in hospital..they will attempt to place her in a different ward too this time! Guest guest
At clinic last week Kristy's doctor said they'll probably bring her in a few days before the op and keep her for a few days after or more depending on what they find in her sinuses. There is apparently some kind of infection rampant there, could possibly be fungal though. The nurse is going to ring me back with admitting details. Would be very happy if it was just going to be an overnight stay!!!!!! they're going to try to place her in 4th floor medical....fingers crossed, but I expect she'll be elsewhere post op! Thanks for the antibitoic/sinusitus story...interesting. Kristy has taken Augmention duo forte on and off this year and it seems to have done nothing to improve her sinus problems, but has worked very well when she's had chest problems. Guest guest
Barbara I'm sorry to hear of Kristy's need for sinus surgery. Ainslie now 11 had hers done in late May and she only stays for a few hours after the surgery, it had been nearly 3 yrs since her last cleanout. Ainslie has Augmentin duo forte on a continuous basis because of her sinuses. She has Cipro when they really flare up. Having said that this winter she has not gone on cipro at all - this is the first time in 6 years- I put it down to the extra 100 mg of magnesium I have been giving her. And recently she started with a post nasal drip tyoe cough and so I started her with accupuncture and it seems to be working. It is with a GP who does accupuncture and he has a tendency towards natural type therapies. His big advice for sinuses (which I think works well for normal sinuses) is deep quick breaths through the nose, and inhaling steam (which we do not do) but Ainslie does have a saline nasal spray. The other option is lots of sea swimming- this also helps to keep the sinuses clear. I hope that the surgery goes well, and that she is not so nervous and the staff accomodate your needs. I'd better go I am at work Terri from Hobart mum to Ainslie 11wcf and Connor 7 no cf
Guest guest
YES!!!!!! Good Advice!!!! n, who had the ESSAL surgery. . . Re: sinus surgery has anyone else had this type of sinus surgery before.? They used to do this type of surgery before they had the imaging system currently available. I would get a second opinion before proceeding to see if there is another option. I know my son's ENT said sometimes they do have go through there to gain access to some areas but it usually it is not necessary. Anyway, if they need to make an incision through his face so near the eye (and it's possible complications), I would definitely get a second opinion. jan ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice.
