Cashew is actually a fruit and can be harder to digest than other nuts. Elaine advises when buying only use raw cashew as roasted cashew may be dusted with a starch. Cashew can be roasted at home with or without the addition of oil. Seeds are not to be used until three months after the last symptom is gone. Macadamias are usually well tolerated. Pecans are easier than almonds and out group is named after them. Carol F. SCD 6 years, celiac
Guest guest
Please be careful with chestnuts. Below is the info from Elaine's website. Mimi http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/chestnuts.htm Elaine writes: When you have progressed quite a bit on the diet and are on your way towards recovery, you can try them. Chestnut flour is not legal. However, if you buy dried chestnuts, soak them and cook them until soft. You can then use them for stuffing and other things. Rabbi Rosenbaum in Jerusalem who published my book in Hebrew was so particular that he had a full 3-4 pages of analysis on cooked, raw, roasted, etc. chestnuts. It is just common sense to realize that once you boil something which has some starch in it, it will become so water-soaked that the weight will be mostly water and the tiny bit of starch is diluted way down. Did you start with the intro diet and gradually add in foods that she tolerated? Sunflower seeds are a more advanced food item and chestnuts are even more advanced than sunflower seeds because the chestnuts have some starch. The macadamia nuts are a good oily nut, very nutritious. Before suggesting she try it can you tell me how her GI symptoms are presently? Guest guest
Hi Sheila, She's on probiotocs. We rotate the strand. She doesn't get yogurt since she allergic to cow's milk. Can't do nut or soy yogurt either. She has a moderate IgG reaction to goat's milk. We were thinking of maybe trying some in a 4-day rotation. Thanks Gayathri > > Hi Gayathri, > > > Sheila...We did a IgG and IgE test and we started a rotational diet. > > We've temporarily stopped all the foods that showed up on the IgG > > panel. > > > > Her GI issues include dry intestinal lining, burps, stomach cramps > > that build up every 3-4 months. > > Eliminating the foods that she is sensitive too has helped with the > > burps and gassiness. Guest guest
Hi Gayathri, > She's on probiotocs. We rotate the strand. Elaine recommended that in a probiotic (bacteria) SCDers stick with only Lacobacillus acidophilus. She also approved of Saccharomyces boulardii as a probiotic (a beneficial yeast) > She doesn't get yogurt since she allergic to cow's milk. Can't do > nut or soy yogurt either. Have you considered goat yogurt? The milk proteins are smaller than cow milk proteins. The 24 goat yogurt is lactose free. The casein in yogurt is denatured and has a 2-dimensional structure instead of the harder to digest trouble causing 3 dimensional casein structure found in dairy milk. > > She has a moderate IgG reaction to goat's milk.
