Guest guest
Hello, I am Bekah, mother to 4 daughters, including 5 month old Georgia, who has been unofficially diagnosed with Plagiocephaly. I was at my 5 year olds apt with a neurosurgeon and asked about the babies " crooked " head and he confirmed. She hasn't had an apt yet, and I am googling dangerously in the meantime! I uploaded some pictures to the photo section to an album titled Georgia. I've noticed something was off since very early on, although it's become apparent recently. She definitely favors looking to the right side, and turns semi stiffly to the left. Also, as I was looking through her photos, every single one she is looking/laying to the right. So, based on her pics, how bad does she look?? Her forehead is pushing out over her right eye and the ears are not lined up etc. Does it seem like she'll need a band? What kind of Dr should I be seeing? ( I live in extremely rural North Dakota so have to travel for everything) Thank you so much in advance, Bekah
Guest guest
Ahhh, Ronda, I bet he looks so cute in it! You should post pics when you get a change. Guest guest
Thank you:) We went to our apt and were referred to a physiatrist and specialist in pediatric rehabilitation in our nearest big town. She is apparently the one people around here go to. They can't see her until January 9th though:( I thought time was kind of important, am I wrong?? Also, the Dr could manually move her neck to the left so thought it was more her choosing to go to the right vs being unable to look the other way. -- Re: New! Bekah, Welcome! Sounds like your daughter has torticollis. That's what your description of her stiff neck leads me to believe. Because of that she favors laying one way, which can cause positional plagiocephaly. Spitting up a lot isn't directly related, but she could have reflux which is worsened a bit by tort. You need to get her looked at for tort and if that's what she has, she'll need physical therapy to resolve it. It's important to treat both side by side. As for where to go? Our pediatrician sent us to PT and to a plastic surgeon at the Children's Hospital in our state. From there the plastic surgeon prescribed a helmet and we were recommended to an ortho. That's generally the way to go about it when insurance is involved so they approve payment. Hang in there, Elaine (Twin A), plagio & tort, 6mos, ~7 weeks helmet On Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 10:57 PM, Bekah <bekahegmail> wrote: I thought of another question to add, does excessive spitting up have anything to do with all of this?
