Four possible things to check here (two of which were true for me):

1) How's your B-12 level? My PCP & Naturopath agree that women need to be at 600

or more to feel well, not just above the lab's low of 215.

2) How's your iron situation? In particular, your HCT, your ferritin, your iron

binding capacity? Hematocrit is the state of your blood right now (how much

oxygen it can carry, essentially), ferritin is the long-term storage protein for

iron, and iron binding capacity basically indicates how much more iron your body

would like to have (high means it wants a lot more than it's getting!)

3) Do you still have sleep apnea? It happens. Skinny people have sleep apnea,

too. If your blood work doesn't reveal a deficiency, talk to your doctor about

sleep apnea and ask for a sleep study.

4) How's your thyroid? Hypothyroid makes some people tired.

It's not normal to be tired all the time, and it's not acceptable, at least not

in my book. Strong words coming from a single mom who works full-time at

Microsoft, who has two puppies in obedience training, and is on the board of

three non-profits! LOL

Subject: Fatigue

Does anybody else suffer from fatigue? I mean

fatigue all the time. No amount of sleep or change

in diet seems to get rid of it.

Please tell me your stories.

Thanks,

Tell us your protein and vitamin regimen. And your basic eating plan. Not in

great detail, of course, but what do you lean toward and what do you avoid?

, you might also consider depression and stress. Don't eliminate any of

the possibilities. When I forget to take my antidepressant meds, my butt

just drags...

Kathy,

I now during the summer I seem to be tired all of the time. I

think it maybe a combination of the heat and allergies. There is

something in the air that always get me this time of year. I also may

need to consider going back on my cpap machine. I notice my breathing at

night is not as good and maybe causing the fatigue. There are just so

many factors that could contribute to fatigue.

A synopsis of what I normal day is as follows:

Breakfast-meat, Lunch is usually meat (sometimes

some left-over stir-fry which means a few

vegetables and noodles). Supper is usually mostly

meat and a few vegetables and rarely a little bread.

Snacks are usually mixed nuts or peanut butter,

although last week I started adding protein shakes

in place of the mixed nuts. Lately, also, I have

been trying some carbs (like animal crackers) in

desperation to make me feel better.

As for my vitamins, I was taking two WalMart

Active Kids Chewables, (4) Calcium Citrate

Chewable Wafers with magnesium and Vitamin D,

and (1 or 2) Sublingual B-12 500 mcg daily. Four

of the Calcium Wafers = 1000 mg Calcium, 400 IU

D, and 500 mg of Magnesium. Although in the last

5 days I started taking (4) of the Multi's daily. (I

space all my vitamins apart during the day so as to

obtain max absorption and not interfere with each

other).

I have also found myself craving caffeine; I know I

need to limit my intake of it, so I don't drink as

much as I want of it.

If any of you have any suggestions, I would

appreciate it.

Thank you so much,

kathy

I seem to be tired all the time lately. But I am going to have a

hysterectomy Sept 16 and am going through a lot of stress right now and I

know that is tiring me out. I have found a couple of things since wls...

VERY important to spread vitamins out throughout the day. Pre-surgery I

liked to take my vitamins in the AM but I can't do that anymore. I get B-12

shots once a month. Also many times I am more tired because I haven't gotten

enough exercise. Simple carbs make me sleepy. Too much heat can add to my

fatigue. (as in the heat wave we have had the last few days.) If I stay

inside for the air conditioning I have a theory that I suffer fom a lack of

a fresh air. This is just a theory out of my own head. No matter how hot

it is outside or how much exercise I get inside the apartment I find I get

renergerized with a 5 minute fresh air break.

One other thing ... sometimes caffeine makes me more tired. I had a doctor

once tell me it was the rebound affect. If you are addicted to caffeine you

might want to begin weaning yourself from it. I started making my coffee

weaker and using a little more decaffinated each day. Now I drink a weak

coffee that is about 75% hazelnut decaf and 25% hazelnut regular. (as a side

note I add about 1/4 tsp unsweetened cocoa to the grounds and is it

delicious that way)

What other medications are you taking? Do you take either antidepressants or

antihistamines? If you were taking them pre weight loss surgery and are

taking the same amount now it could be that they are making you tired now.

What have your blood tests revealed? Are you sure your are getting the right

type of iron supplement?

I have read so many places that tell you NOT to take a nap during the day

but I find listening to a relaxation/guided imagery tape and getting a 20

min nap in the afternoon helps a lot.

Any possibility that you have sleep apnea? The quality of your night time

sleep could be affected

let us know what you find out Kathy.

Kathy, you're not taking any iron? There are a few other things, but

I'll bet the ranch your iron is in the toilet.

When were your last labs done, and when are you due again? If you

haven't started, always get a copy of your labs so you can look for

trends. Our docs usually only look to see if everything is in the

normal range, but you could have been just over the danger zone

before, and you've surpassed that now.

Anyway, I'm sure others will have more suggestions, but the most

obvious is iron.

Good luck,

in NJ

Just to add my two cents worth. At 9 months my iron levels were very low,

35 and it is supposed to be around 62 I think. I had been feeling tired and

fatigued all the time. Started taking iron and adding red meats to my diet

and I seem to be fine. Lab work is being redone in a couple of weeks.

Should be okay.

I have listened to everybody's advice and have

ordered some Ferrous Fumerate today. It was

tough to find, but I have found it and ordered it.

Thank you all so much for caring!!!

Lori,

It has be allergies or something because I noticed myself that I

am simply just tired. Although, I was just diagnosed with sleep

apnea :0(

I guess losing 130lbs and still feeling like a lump was enough of

an indication to my doctor that I needed to be tested for it. (That

and my father and sister both were diagnosed with it this year --

but they are both overweight.)

I am proof that being thinner and healthier doesn't mean you still

can't have sleep apnea. It is after all a sleep disorder and since

my whole family seems to be affected, then it proves to me that it

is also genetic. (Great, as if inheriting the fat genes weren't bad

enough!)

I have now added Iron, Vit C, and (2 to 3) protein

shakes daily.

I got my labs back from the doctor. All my labs

were normal- low normal. So I decided to nip it in

the bud before they get any lower.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi all, I hope that everybody is doing well. It has been incredibly

hot down here and we had some huge storms that left lots of water,

so the misquitos are horrible. But that is just for complaining,

cant do much about he weather or the bugs.

I am still working 2 days a week and dont know if I will ever be

able to increase it or not. I am just so tired. I sleep a lot and

well for the most part. I am just so tired. I went to bed after

the late show last night and slept all the till 10am when my husband

called. I could, and will after the kids leave for the movies, go

back to bed. I am trying to eat well, and am doing ok there I

think. Lots of fruit and such. I am just so tired. I had a great

day at work yesterday if I could stop yawning and feeling so drained.

Does anybody else feel completely drained and exhausted with no

reason. I am the hyper sort so I am usually running hither and yon,

now I am just yawning. Any suggestions?

Warmly,

Chrissy
