Guest guest
Getting Started <<1. Carson can't eat carrots, and he is allergic to beef so he can't eat the homemade jello. I don't really see any other carbohydrates in the list of things to eat. >> You can use squash instead of carrots in his case. I would advise butternut squash.... it's got a finer texture. Less fibrous. You don't have to use any food he is allergic to. <<2. Is it okay to eat banana and cooked apple on the intro days? Apple and banana pancakes?>> No... not on intro. It's only for two days. <<3. What are some strategies for getting the kids to eat the broth? >> Your ideas sound fine.... you can also mix a bit of juice with the broth. Sounds kind of weird, but it might taste just fine. Good luck.... patti Recent Activity a.. 22New Members Visit Your Group
Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. You can use squash instead of carrots in his case. I would advise butternut squash.... it's got a finer texture. Less fibrous. > He doesn't tolerate the butternut squash, or at least he didn't several months ago. I haven't tried it again since then. I just figured since his gut is not doing well, I would stick with what I knew he has tolerated in the past. Debbie, Carson's mom
Guest guest
Very ripe bananas are a part of the Dr Haas intro diet. Guest guest
hello and welcome ;-), Peanut butter and pork rinds cause people a lot of problems. It's usually better to hold off on nut flour/butter until you are more stabilized--maybe six months and then proceed cautiously. Prednisone works fast for some people but it's a love/hate thing imho. I was pred-dependent before starting SCD. Everytime I tried to taper, I'd flare again and be back at square one pre-SCD. Lots of us start and make mistakes and restart ;-). There is really no way to avoid trial and error. Prednisone masks pain along with other problems so I wouldn't try to eat any/all legal foods. You should still proceed cautiously. Can't help you with the meds, I tried several before landing on Pentasa and that's just the one that helps but doesn't and never did get rid of the 'd'. I was dx'd in 2002, started SCD 2005. The thing about the diet is maybe is over the long run, it can help minimize on-going problems. You'll know the foods, supplements, stressors to avoid if you keep track. Hopefully you'll be able to avoid going into a long-term, really bad flare. Debbie 41 cd I am getting started on SCD and have tried and failed a couple times now. I am having trouble with slowly introducing new foods while changing up the menu. From what I have been reading your not suppose to eat the same thing everyday, but now I don't know what I am reacting too. Although I think my latest flare is from too many peanut butter brownies. To tell a little bit about myself I was diagnosed with crohn's in Aug 2009, much to my surprise because I wasn't really sick, no weight loss, occasional D, and no pain or blood. Since being diagnosed I believe I have had two, two month remissions and a few mild flares. The stress of finding out made me pretty sick for awhile. I have already tried Aprisio- didn't reach inflamed area, Asocal - allergic, Entocourt - never again and now my doc wants to put me on 6mp, which I don't think I am sick enough to be on. Even with this flare I am not that bad. Anyways, I was wondering if opting for the prednisone, which I hear works wonders especially the first time, to get into remission and eat all SCD foods and use the foods to stay in remission.Does anyone know if this would work? If the prednisone would make it so I could skip the trial and error of SCD?
