Guest guest
Vondie, the discrimination that your children face daily should be a concern to every parent! Long before 504 plans, my young child wcf had no trouble be ing appropriately accomodated solely with a letter of medical necessity from the cf physician AND, in our case, the neurologist! Go get 'em! This is dis crimination against the designated handicapped, pure and simple! Love to all of you, n Rojas schools - ugh!!!!!!!!!!! > Hey guys, > Well, I finally have a little time to write. So far, my boys are doing well. They are on antibiotics for two weeks for a lung thing. Seems like they always do things together - even if it is getting sick. Then they passed it to me. So now I am running around trying to stay away from them and not give it back again. I am sure you all know what I am talking about. > Yesterday I had to drag myself up to the school - again. I am getting so tired of dealing with this school. They have me to the point of wanting to smack someone. It is a constant argument with them. Teachers that wont pay attention to anything. I have come to the conclusion that they dont care - I mean its not their kids so not their problem. Dont get me wrong, there are a few that I love to death. We are dealing with " if you leave class to go to the nurse or the bathroom, you get a tardy. Three tardies you get after school detention " . I DONT THINK SO! This argument is ongoing. Yes, we have the 504 plan in place. Not that it does any good. > Last week we had to go to the school over being called a baby in front of the entire class. I dont know how to shorten this story. Lets see - substitute teacher. Tells the class they can talk among thereselves. Of course they get loud. She yells at them (no biggie). She says I dont want to hear you talk, breath, clear your throat or even cough. Well, Rober t can't help it and coughs (most kids w/cf do). She gets on to him, he tells her he cant help it, he has a condition that makes him cough. She says " Fine, if he wants to be a baby about it, then let the baby cough " , in front of the class. A friend of his stood up and told her not to talk to him like that, that he had a disease that makes him cough. She told him to shut up and sit down. So - you can imagine how _issed off I was when he got home. I called up there to tell her to stay there I was on my way. Everyone was already gone. (probably a good thing) The next morning we took it a step above the principal. This was the principals response - " Kids shouldn't run home every time they are called a name - this is something they need to learn to deal with - it will happen all through their lives. " Excuse me, but I think she is full of something, I am just trying to find a nice word for it. I said " true, they may grow up with it in their lives - but NOT from a teacher in their school " . Needless to say the other man we were in front of agreed with me. We filed a complaint and she probably wont be back in the school again. There was more to the story - cussing in class and putting kids down for their beliefs. Just an all around bad deal. > The principal has this philosophy of taking up for the teachers automatically, wtihout listening to the kids at all. > I am really serious when I say she does not like me anymore. I am trying not to be overbearing, overprotecting, etc.... But, I am at my wits end with the whole deal. > They dont get their meds on time half the time (but they cant carry them themselves). They get each others meds (inhalers), which I have explained to them that cant keep happening - there is the cross contamination issue. I dont know. I have taken all the books, tapes etc..... to them. > I have just come to the conclusion that a majority of people dont care when it does not concern them or their families. > Sorry, just had to gripe for awhile. Didn't mean for it to be so long winded. > Vondie > >
