Guest guest
Hum... I'm not the best at domestic things. I usually have my tree up by the end of November and take it down after New Year's. It's a lot of work to put the tree up, so I want to look at it for at least 4 weeks. We open our gifts on Christmas morning (maybe one gift on Christmas Eve). That's about it. We are usually traveling during the Christmas holidays. My family is in Iowa and Dave's is scattered across the USA. We are going to CA this year. Dave's mom turns 80, two days after Christmas. I hope to meet n while I am there. We went to Iowa for Thanksgiving. I wanted to meet Deb A. while we were there, but time got away form me. I even spent one day at the VA hospital in Iowa City with my father. I think that is really close to Deb. Gale Grandma to Abby (23 months wcf) > When I meet new people I like to ask them what their holiday > traditions are, regardless of religion. Guest guest
What a good way to get to know people! Well, we are Christian, so we celebrate Christmas. I usually start to put up the holiday decorations the day after Thanksgiving. We use an artificial tree (I get rashes from most real pine trees) and I light it with about 8-10 strands of lights. We all put decorations on. Our tree has been done for 6 days already! but I haven't gotten anything else done yet. We have had a Christmas eve tradition for the last 12 or 13 years with my family. We go to my sister's house and exchange presents. these are the ones we can open on Christmas Eve. We normally spend the next day going to my husband's family events. It usually is his mom's in the morning and his dad's house in the afternoon. This year we are trying something new, his step mother wants to have us all there at the same time and since her daughter's little girl will be with her father's family on Christmas eve and most of Christmas day, we are going to have a family gathering there on 12/23. We will end up with 3 days of Christmas. I hope that it will make the holiday easier and less hectic. I also try to drag my hubby to church. Sometimes I actually get him there! mom of 5 with CF and one on the way Traditions When I meet new people I like to ask them what their holiday traditions are, regardless of religion. Do you open presents Christmas Eve, or morning? What does Santa bring? All of the presents or one big special one? Do you stay home or go to family/friends? How about for dinner? Whats traditional? Put it up on the 24th or earlier and when does it come down? Just curious as to how our friends in other countries ( that includes Ohio)(heehee) celebrate!
