Guest guest
Cloth diapers and cloth underpants with vinyl exterior or the plastic " over " pants Disposable diapers do not work. the kids need to feel the " yuck " factor over and over and over again to get the cause/effect relationships. At 50lbs you may need to look for adult cloth diapers though. For whatever reason after doing the listening program by www.advancedbrain.com for 3 cycles my son decided he would use the potty. He wasn't " solid " in his skills until about 4.5 though. He was in cloth starting at about 3.5 yrs and his little brother at 18 mo as the 3.5 would bring me the baby diaper and say " me baby " I was pg with my 4th at the time so didn't have a lot of patience for this whole thing. On the bright side, the baby trained at 2.5 yrs old day/night urine without me even trying. The Bm's are just coming in line now at 3yrs old. he has the diarrhea down but the solid ones are still a bit of a challenge. The new baby has been in cloth since about 6 months. Pull ups are a complete waste of money. IMO > > > > Hi there. Guest guest
Hi Sara! Not sure how good it is -but leave it to Sesame Street to come up with a " Potty Elmo " ! http://www.pottytrainingconcepts.com/Potty-Elmo-z.html Here's a website for Elmo's Potty Time: http://www.sesameworkshop.org/sesamestreet/games/pottytime/flash.php?contentId=1\ 6805504 Below are some archives on potty training -as many archives as there are below -still many more in the archives! Re: New to this group./potty training archive Late potty training -4 is the norm for our group (and getting more norm for most all children in the US due to pull ups etc.) " , Business Manager of Baby Fresh USA, maker of diaper wipes, was quoted in The Wall Street Journal saying " The products (wipes) are also benefiting from the fact that children now wear diapers until they are 36 to 42 months old, some six months longer than when Baby Fresh was introduced 16 years ago (1977). " The Wall Street Journal, May 4, 1993 For our children reasons could be -lack of muscle strength for control (mild hypotonia), on command motor planning problem (apraxia), or just too much on the plate to deal with this too. Here's an archive on this topic: From: " kiddietalk " <kiddietalk@...> Date: Tue May 17, 2005 10:02 pm Subject: Re: potty training kiddietalk Whomever first posted that they have some new (and improved?) potty training tips that worked, Jan? Please just post it here so all can see. Late to potty train is pretty par for the course in this group ...actually for many kids today in general for some reason. For those that want archived info -here's one From: " kiddietalk " <kiddietalk@...> Date: Wed Oct 22, 2003 11:20 pm Subject: Re: Potty Training - not till 5 y/o???? In this group it's not unusual for our children not to potty train till late three or early four (overall) due to low tone. Not sure which group five is normal in? I just posted recently that even " normal " kids are training late today, but am too fried to find the post (must be under a different subject which is why subject titles are important) So searched quick and found these links on it at google Lots more out there -may want to cut and paste links Toilet-trained at 2? Today it's rare Grandma may not agree, but the change is fine, experts say. They see no need to rush the process. http://users.erols.com/elainefrankadopt/inquire.html But over the last few decades, the age at which toddlers become diaper-free has been creeping upward. In 1957, 92 percent of children were toilet-trained by the age of 18 months, studies found. Today the figure for 2-year-olds is just 4 percent, according to a large-scale Philadelphia study. Only 60 percent of children have achieved mastery of the toilet by 36 months, the study found, and 2 percent remain untrained at the age of 4 years. http://www.faculty.fairfield.edu/faculty/hodgson/Courses/so142/News_st ories/toil\ etT.html And...in case that was not enough -for those interested parties -here is a potty archive that has other potty messages in it -and will teach you how to search the archives for even more- So this message is full of potty stuff! (wait, is that what I meant to say?) From: " kiddietalk " <kiddietalk@...> Date: Mon Sep 23, 2002 8:56 am Subject: Re: Potty training help Hi ! Knowing -the Outreach Coordinator for CHERAB-she can find you even more advice than the following. I had tried every trick in the book but he just wasn't ready and it had nothing to do with his apraxia. He, at that point, could make things known with sign and pecs. The tale of kids not liking sitting in a wet or dirty diaper didn't apply to him. He never noticed. Well, one day we were yet again sitting on the toilet and he signed Santa to me. I was so grumpy that day that I told him that Santa liked it when little boys went in the potty. I felt horrible after I said it and immediately apologized to him. That night my husband yelled at me to come to the bathroom. When I got there my son and husband were looking proudly in the toilet and there, like a golden scepter sat a raisin size piece of poop! Since that night he has been completely potty trained, poop and pee, night and day! If I had known all it took was me saying santa I would have done it years ago and saved myself the expense of all the bribes we bought! just my story, Sandy ~~~~~~~~end of archives =====
Guest guest
Actually, my son is on the spectrum with apraxia. He is 4 1/2 and 50 lbs. Actually the Pull ups Huggies 4T 5T are pretty roomy for a big boy which my son is. I just started to bite the bullet and keep my son in Gerber training pants, they are 4T but again roomy, they have a thicker cotton crotch area so his pants still get wet if he has an accident but it does not get all over everything. He has started to realize if he wets he doesn't like it, so now he is holding his urine until he gets a pull up on for bed time, or whatever. If he just cannot hold it he does have an accident. I for the longest time have worried about this potty training thing, but I have been assured that he will get it, he is very smart as I am sure your son is, but maybe he just isn't ready, sometimes I don't think my son knows he has to go until it is too late. Also, try to teach your son the difference between wet and dry, that also helps, maybe a PECS picture of the toilet or try to teach him the sign, my son still wont go on the potty but he doesn't mind going and sitting which I guess is good. Good luck, from one Mom to the next I know what you are going through. Also, if you just don't have any other options the Good night pull ups come in small, which is our son's size, med and large, the cost does add up but it is an option. I know they say get your child out of pull ups, they have to be able to feel the wetness. Jen **************It's Tax Time! Get tips, forms, and advice on AOL Money & Finance. Guest guest
Hi everyone. I just joined this evening and my daughter, Paige (6 months) will be fit with her DOC Band tomorrow. I was wondering if there are any members who live in Woodbridge, VA or NOVA. I think it would be fun to have playdates for the babies and moms. Also has anyone ordered decorations from http://www.blingyourband.blogspot.com/ I look forward to reading the message board!
