We have done all of those antibiotics at the same time. It is very common for

kids with CF to be on that many antibiotics. I hate cipro because it has

cause my daughter to have joint pain so I am not that good about giving it to

her.

But everyone is different. Deb A

Just curious, my son has joint pain and frequently " hoobles' after

sitting too long or doing too much running. Any other child have

joint issues?

I love that word, " hoobles " . My son (7) has the same problem. After

he's been sitting on my husband's shoulders he has trouble walking,

and he does get a lot of knee soreness after a day at the fair or

soccer practice. I asked the cf doc last week if we were worried

about it and he said " not yet " because it's still incidental pain,

there isn't a lot of swelling, it doesn't keep him awake, etc.

He did a course of cipro in the spring, but the joint pain existed

before and since. Seems to be worse since his IV's in September

(gentamycin and cefapime)... he was on bactrim then, too.

Hi Pattie,

I am sorry to hear that your daughter has a cold and cough. We are fighting a

cold too. Just so you know, that cipro can give some terrible diarrhea and

yeast infections. So don't forget the yogurt and a lot of water! , our

daughter, has been on Tobi every other month for over 3 years. I think that it

is the reason that she has been so well for so long! (it's been 3 yrs since she

has needed to be in the hospital for IV's.)

Advice on Antibiotics

Hi everyone,

My daughter was recently put on Tobi and zithromax, as she has had her first

PA culture. She was doing well, aside from the scratchy throat, but came down

with a cold as all her friends and her gramma have been sick. I gave her a

week to watch symptoms before calling the dr. In comparison to developing

infections prior to the new treatments, I really thought the cold was running

its

course and that she would be okay. But wouldn't you know it by the 8th day

the nose seemed to be clear but than the chunky cough came through. So we saw

the dr. and she felt we needed to start Cipro (this is also new to us). I'm

concerned about all these antibiotics! She assured me it was okay and normal

for CF patients. She doesn't normally jump the gun with them and I trully

trust

her judgement, but I was wondering what everyone here thought. She is on

Tobi for three straight months, this being the first, and the Zithromax Mon,

Wed &

Fri. She has been on both for about a month now. Any comments?

Thanx,

Pattie

No, my son has never had cipro. He did have a three week course of a

different antibiotic because he came down with Lyme disease last

year. I'm just trying to figure out if it is Lyme, CF or what?
