SCD - bad BM

My son has been on SCD since June. We didn't use the Intro Diet back then.

Initially his BMs

had become much better but after 1.5 months his diarrhea came back. We put him

on the

Intro Diet from last Sunday trying to find out what foods have been causing the

problem. He

had IgG food allery test, which showed he was allergic to eggs and nuts.

For the first 3 days, his stools were formed although the color could be darker.

We introduced

prawns and he had the worst BM I have ever seen. It was very loose and orange

color.

He only had chicken, carrot puree, green bean puree and a bit of pear juice that

day. Is this part

of die-off reaction or the prawns were causing the problem?

Also today he had chicken, cooked pear, raw avocado, zuccini puree, pork leg

puree and his poo was very very loose again. Is this also die-off?

In the days leading up to the bad BM's mentioned above he had:

cooked honeydew melon, pork mince, cooked tomato once, lamb mince, 1 lady

banana, cooked carrot, salmon, water + a bit of lemon juice,

Any of the foods mentioned above introduced could have caused the problem or

these could be die-off?

He is having supplements as follows:

Homeopathic remedy in drops (no sugar), DRN vitamin/mineral basic supplement

from Kirkman, Nystatin, enzymes, L-glutamine, calcium power from Kirkman (all

SCD legal).

What should I do next? What can we give Theiss? He hasn't had much appetite

since one week before and is losing weight. He is generally tired and more

" spacey " . He is so unhappy and we really don't know what to do.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

I'm having trouble understanding what's going on. You typed:

<<We introduced prawns and he had the worst BM I have ever seen. It was very

loose and orange color. He only had chicken, carrot puree, green bean puree and

a bit of pear juice that day. >>

You're saying you introduced the prawns and that was followed by " the worst

BM... " but then you say he had only chicken, carrots, green bean and pear juice

that day.

When you wrote a few days ago about this situation, I was immediately suspicious

of the prawns and I think I responded to you in a message to that effect. But

here, it sounds like he did not have the prawns on the day of the " worst BM " ?

Some people have trouble digesting carrots.... and since you describe the " worst

BM " as being " very loose and orange color " .... and carrots were eaten that day,

I'm thinking the carrots *could* be a possibility, too.

I don't think of loose BMs as being typically attributed to die-off. With

die-off, we see behavioral stuff... and/or flu-like symptoms... and/or stuff

just like what you describe here as: <<generally tired and more " spacey " .>>

It IS possible that you're seeing some die-off, along WITH some intolerance of

one food or another. It's hard to tease out what is what, unfortunately. The

die-off, however, would be not cause by a particular food... but by the fact

that you went back to square one and re-started the diet.... and possibly have

bacteria dying off.

Are you using epsom salts baths or lotion? That could possibly help him feel

better and help with unloading the toxins from his system.

The questions that come up for me... I will just throw them out. PLEASE

understand that I am only trying to go over EVERYthing you listed with a

fine-toothed comb. My questions may not be valid.... but I had to ask....

1) I will ask again, why did you introduce prawns so early in the diet? Are you

absolutely SURE they contained no additives? Are you absolutely sure that prawns

are something he would ordinarily tolerate just fine? It's not something we

would typically see anyone use at the very early stages of the diet, though I

understand that you are wanting a wider variety, I'm just not exactly sure it's

advisable so early on. Since you seem like you intuitively suspect the prawns, I

just wanted to let you know that I do, too.

2) Was the avacado very soft and ripe? Does he ordinarily tolerate avacado?

3) Was the zucchini peeled and seeded before cooking?

4) Are you absolutely sure that the pork had no additives? I find it difficult

to locate pork in my area that does not have added " tenderizing " and/or

seasoning agents (that can include sugars).

5) Was the tomato peeled and seeded?

6) What is a " lady banana " ? I'm not familiar with that term. Is that a

regular, common banana?

7) One of his supps that I have a question about is the <<DRN vitamin/mineral

basic supplement>>. Are you using the hypoallergenic version? The regular DRN

has sucralose (which is Splenda... NOT SCD legal... very bad for the gut).

8) Which enzymes are you using? Are we absolutely sure they are legal.... and

tolerated?

9) Nystatin.... How long has he been on Nystatin? If you started this at the

same time as the diet, it may be really hard to figure out whether die-off is

happening from that or from the diet. I also am concerned because quite a few

other parents here have seen yeast rebound BIG-time as soon as Nystatin is

discontinued. Have you tried other natural anti-fungals without success? I do

worry that Nystatin can possibly get in the way of moving forward on healing (my

personal opinion only).

Are you absolutely SURE there is nothing illegal added to the Nystatin?

I would double and TRIPLE check to see if all of your Kirkman supps are legal.

Finally, I need to say....

**For SOME KIDS, we've observed that it is sometimes necessary to pretty much

stop all supplements and Rx antifungals, at least for a very short time, until

the diet is well-established... so that you can eliminate some of the

variables.**
