Guest guest
" KISS " stands for " Keep It Simple Stupid. " My SCD advice is make " KISS " stand for " Keep It Smart SCD. " Of course, we are not stupid but starting a new diet sure can be overwhelming even for a person in good health. And, it's no secret that there can be a lot of anxiety around implementing SCD for the first time especially if a previous diet was not what you hoped. What often happens at the beginning is adults and parents panic thinking they or their kids will be deprived. They fight this anxiety by challenging SCD. This manifests in asking approval for a variety of exotic or commercially prepared foods. It can be just curiosity but I think it's trying to challenge the intelligence of SCD, not the integrity. I have found that in six years on SCD I have developed a split personality--- one I call " Ms. Basic. " The alter ego is " Madame Greedy Gourmet. " I will qualify that I have no small children to look after but two with permanent fur coats and am a stay at home split personality :-) Ms. Basic prefers balanced meals with animal protein, fresh fruits and vegetables (preferably organic) nice salads, yogurt, a little honey and some nuts, cheese or dried fruit for between meals. She sits herself down at the table, enjoys her meals and gets on with her life and feels pretty good. She also doesn't give a lot of thought to how different she is from others and how unfortunate that the only part if a bagel or donut she can have is the hole. Greedy Gourmet is busy experimenting with cookbooks, adapting recipes, overindulging in advanced foods, reading labels in frantic searching for remote store bought products that may be SCD legal to stuff the cupboards ( as if the enemy were at the outskirts of the city). Greedy Gourmet gets flares and wonders why. Greedy also gets big belly bloat and little pockets if depression because selection, preparation and consumption of food becomes the daily priority which predominates and occupies her ongoing thoughts. My message to beginners is this: You have work ahead introducing the most basic of foods. Buy the best quality of food you can afford, prepare it well and expect that the first few weeks and months will likely see either you or your child being picky, going through die off and frequently challenging your decision to hold fast to SCD. It is SO worth toughing it out in my experience! Six years have shown me emphatically that I will not run out of variety or options to ENJOY being on SCD most of the time for the duration as I plan to be mostly SCD indefinitely. So if I can't use a bunch of stuff like all the Canadian Hershey candy just recalled because there is soy lethicin in it contaminated with salmonella, so what? Wrong kind of KISSES. If the imported pickled snails or whatever have a questionable ingredient, won't life go on without them? Even after 2690 days of SCD already in the bank, my best lifestyle choice will be to be Ms. Basic most of the time. http://www.pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#homemade Carol F.
