Guest guest
Hi Guys: Just a short note from a post-op with an opinion about contacts and some contact etiquette.. Most post-ops don't mind being asked to be a contact. But please ask them in person, off the list. Most will answer you quickly and are glad to do so. If you put out a general broadcast to the list, some don't answer because they figure someone else already has. It's actually flattering to be asked to be a contact. That says to us post-ops that you believe we have something to offer you and most of us like to be needed. If you do a general post, it's kind of unflattering...kind of says...hey, I need you to talk to me..I don't care who contacts me...I just need to get this done...so definately...go with the route of asking someone, at their own email address, to be a contact for you. Dr. R wants each pre-op to have to go out of the way to some degree to get their MGB education. The contact portion of the process is a very important part. Try to choose folks who write posts with which you identify...someone you can learn something from...and not just fulfill your contact requirement. It is fine to ask by email. It doesn't have to be by phone but that's a good way to get a contact too. When you send your packet in, you don't have to include a copy of the email. But you need to do a short paragraph or two about who you used as a contact, the date and the way in which you had contact and a paragraph about what you learned from that person about MGB. Post-ops: I have decided that my signature file will now include the fact that I am willing to be a contact. During the past week I have had 7 requests for contacts and I just love talking MGB. I'm thrilled with my surgery results and I want to share. So I'm going to advertise my willingness to give back by saying so in my signature. Please join me if you enjoy being a contact. Now......if I can figure out how I made the other signature file, I'm going to change it so that I can show my willingness to be a contact! Thanks for listening if you got this far.
