Guest guest
AFTERTHOUGHT: Go into a local Social Security Office and grab every leaflet you can on SSI (NOT SSDI!) and read them; your state should instruct you as to whether you INITIATE the application through Social Security or not--and most likely you do. If the child has a deceased parent with Social Security input, the child can be also eligible for SSDI and Medicare---All of us who have worked have paid for all of these programs, whether we are aware of it or not. Do not let em barrassment get you down! SSI, attn:ESPECIALLY Bev! Howdy do,all?I am wondering more about cf and ssi.Now with Ty being hospitalized and missing so much school shouldn't he better qualify for ssi benefits.I cant go get a REAL job with him sick so much, but we like so many others, are tight on $!!Last few times ii appl, ied its been a nightmare, and i dont know where to go down here.Do i HAVE to get an atty???Could only find one in my area that will even handle children's cases.Current hubbie is cfers step father, so i thought theyre not suppose to hold his income against him. Thanks!!! Patty, mom to Tyler 8 wcf and 2wocf, in Sunshine State!!:) ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
Please remember when you're applying for SSI, to KEEP APPEALING. I used to write appeals for the judges on the Federal level, which is the LAST step in the appeals process- and many are granted at that level. So if you are rejected once or twice at the state level, PLEASE APPEAL until you can do so no more. Your application may be granted - and I happen to know, at least in New York, that the Federal Judges are more liberal. Many CF children and adults meet what is called " the listing " which means that benefits must automatically be granted according to statute, but there are some judges who find ways around this. Keep appealing, and be sure your doctor SPELLS out the severity of the applicant's disability - e.g. FEV values, hospitalization frequency, etc. Krishnan On Saturday, December 20, 2003, at 06:28 PM, Rojas5915@... wrote: > AFTERTHOUGHT: Go into a local Social Security Office and grab every > leaflet > you can on SSI (NOT SSDI!) and read them; your state should instruct > you as > to whether you INITIATE the application through Social Security or > not--and most > likely you do. Guest guest
Yes!!! by all means appeal it if they reject you the first (or 2nd or 3rd.....) time. They rejected 2x but it went to a judge. We were supposed to get a date to meet with the judge but he looked at the appeal and asked why they were wasting his time with this, just give it to her, she isn't going to get over CF. So we got a letter saying that we were finally approved instead of a date to go meet with the judge.
