Guest guest
, Please tell us exactly what he's eating now.... and what supplements. Is he eating the SCD goat yogurt? Patti WE NEED HELP.... Hi everyone-- I need some help. My son, , went on the SCD in January, and did beautifully on this diet for about ten months. In the last two weeks--with NO dietary changes whatsoever--he has had massive behavioral regression. He has mild autism (has had it for years), and the " tendencies " of this disorder lightened up significantly a couple of weeks into the diet. During the last 2 weeks, he has started, for the first time ever, to twist his hands in this weird double-jointed way, and to twist his mouth/lips the same way. He is normally okay at school, and we've received probably 8 calls from the school in the last two weeks. We are very worried that he has developed an allergy to the nuts or some other food on the diet. He has a history of " developing " allergies to foods, and we are down to just almost nothing. Has anyone ever heard of this/have any experience with this? Does anyone know of a physician who can advise? I feel like I'm alone in this world figuring this out. And to eliminate any more foods is just extremely frightening (we've been slowly eliminating his foods since he was 4 months old--he's now 8.5). We've always been very willing to do the work for the diet, but I'm honestly afraid--for the first time in his life--that there's about to be nothing left. Any advice would be helpful. Guest guest
I have no experience with something like this, and I'm sure that others will have suggestions of doctors that they think can help. I would recommend Dr. O'Hara in Connecticut, and she has an on staff dietician named Vikki that is awesome. They are both awesome, and very familiar with scd. Dr. O'Hara also knew Elaine, so she's very comfortable with scd. Let me know if you're interested in talking with either Dr. O'Hara or Vikki, and I'll get you their contact info. Guest guest
Our daughter went through the same thing. Turns out, she was actually becoming allergic to almost everything we were feeding her and we needed to go back to the intro. diet and we also found a wonderful GI Doc. He said sometimes when our bodies are really sick, it takes more than diet or supp's. We were so sad to hear that since we are against using meds. We did however convince ourselves somehow to try to let him help us. He prescribed gastrocrom (oral). It dried her out with the recommended dose per day so, we only have had to actually use it for 2 months and she was back on track after that. I think SCD has done her so good. And, before we started the gastrocrom, I saw a huge difference in her allergies actually not triggered! I knew she needed a boost and I don't feel guilty about using it because it has helped tremendously when nothing else seemed to. Good Luck! This is our personal experience but, we are all different. Guest guest
You might try doing the SCD similar to the rotation diet. It is a royal pain sometimes to plan but you will really be able to tell what foods are affecting him. Still only eat SCD legal foods BUT only let him have each food every 4 days. For example if you do chicken, carrots, apples on Monday, you can't do those foods again until Friday. If you do beef, broccoli, pears on Tuesday, you can't do them again until Saturday. ETC. That way if you do a certain food and he reacts the next day, you have a better idea what it could possibly be. HTH le Mom to Zack ASD due to midbrain injury SCD 2 1/2 weeks. Some ideas on what is happening: - you may be going through a period of die off. Sometimes these occur a few months into the diet. we usually suggest to go back to the intro for a few days until things calm down. (Espom salt baths may help). After the intro re-add foods back, one at a time going at a speed of reintroduction that fits with his tolerance. (ie. if the intro straightened things out you'll likely be able to add fodds back in rather quickly) - a recently added food/supplement/medication is causing trouble. Same advice as above -go back to the intro effectively removing the food and allowing it to clear out of his system. Are there any new meds or supplements in the last month? - something environmental (new carpets, fresh painting at home or school etc.)or illegals given at school or other places.
