Guest guest
Hi all, Hope everyone is feeling well. I myself have not been. I have decided to go ahead and apply for SSDI. I have posted a couple of these questions before, but no one seems to respond to me. So I will try again. Can you continue to work while applying for SSDI if you are making under $800 per month? Would anyone who was awarded the first time around without having to appeal care to share their letter with me? Any other information about SSDI in general would be greatly appreciated and I mean anything. Thanks in advance. Thoughts and prayers. T. Guest guest
Sorry ...this isn't a reply to your message per se, but I, too would like to get this info. I have come home from work again today because of my pain and nausea and have no more leave left until January of 2005....so I will have 18 hours of lost pay this next paycheck. Since I'm the major breadwinner in the household this is distressing me greatly...I also handle all the bills so I know the impact that this will have. It's getting to the point where if they don't find something soon, treat it, etc., that I am getting worse and worse and am finding it almost impossible to go to work at all and worse yet, be productive. Soooo......at any rate, starting to put contingency plans in the back burner of my head and this is definitely the one I need the most. Would appreciate any and all info related to this topic. thanks in advance > > > Hi all, > > Hope everyone is feeling well. I myself have not been. > > I have decided to go ahead and apply for SSDI. Guest guest
, I think you can still be working if you are making less than $700 a month, but I would double check with Social Security. I would highly recommend getting a lawyer right off, one who has done lots of SSDI cases. Most lawyers with do this work will not ask for payment unless you win your case, and if you do, they can only ask for 1/4 of the back pay or $5,400, whichever is LESS. Also, be aware that 95% of all applications are denied initially, 90% of all appeals are denied. So most of the approval come during the trial hearing stage. That's how mine did, and I was lucky. I didn't have to appear at the trial because the judge I got approved my case just by reading my file, so I didn't have to actually go to the hearing. I've heard that this is not common, so expect to have to go the long haul and go to a trial hearing. You will definitely need a lawyer when you get to that stage. When filing out the Daily Activities Form (you get this after you apply), write down exactly how this disease makes it difficult for you to continue working, how it affects you home life, how it affects your relationships with your coworkers, how it affects your housework (cleaning, etc.), how it affects your ability to eat, ability to exercise, how it affects your relationships with your family. The more information you can give them on it's impact on your life, the better. If you feel depressed, mention it. Depression, believe it or not, can help you get disability. Keep copies of everything you send them, including all the forms. If you can get copies of your medical records yourself and then give them to Social Security instead of relying on your doctor's office sending them, that's good. That's because some doctors offices throw away the request from Social Security because they know they'll get another one. However, you can get denied immediately if they don't get your medical records. IF you have any questions while you are going through the process, feel free to ask and you should get some help from one of us on the group. Also, before you apply, make sure you are eligible to receive it. To find that out, just contact Social Security and they'll tell you if you are eligible to receive disability. I think you need 30 quarters to be eligible. The quarters are based on how long you've been working. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@...
