Guest guest
Hi Gang: I am new to the group. Just beginning my search into the MGB process. STORMY, I am interested in the story you saw on Fox News. I cannot find it on their Main Website. Do you mind sharing the call letters and viewing area so that I can check their website? Pleasssssssssssssssse? Thanks Also wanted to say that since I have been here, in " lurking mode " , I have regained my faith in the support and caring that is boasted by the page. My first day of membership was the beginning of the episode. Glad to see the true essence of the group shining through now. I am one of those unfortunate souls who is shouldering the additional burden of convincing my family that this surgery is the way to go. (As if 260 lbs isn't enough of a cross to bear). I have already gotten lots of great info here that I am gathering for ammunition. Thanks to those who faithfully post info. I Hope everybody is having a great day! Guest guest
Hi Leisa. Welcome to the list. I have been a member for a year now, and the majority of the time, every one gets along great. I am glad to hear that you " weathered the storm " . About the story, I saw it a few minutes before I posted this morning and don't remember the exact time, but it was between 8:15am and 9:15am this morning. I have Dish Network and have both the East and West Fox networks and unfortunatly, I'm not sure which channel it was on. It was an African- American news man, sort of muscular with a moustache. I'll watch again in the morning to see what the show was. I think(but I'm not sure)that it is Good Morning New York or something like that. I was just flipping through the channels when I caught the story. I wish I could tell you more. I remember them saying that the study was just released from Sweden. I'll try to find it online and post where it is located. I know what you mean about convincing the family. I was so ashamed to bring up the idea to my husband, but he was all for it once I got up the nerve to tell him. His mother was the one who suggested it in the first place because she knew someone who lost weight with surgery. THEN, just a month or so before surgery, she changed her mind(she is ill with Breast Cancer that has spread to her liver)and begged me not to do it. She said that she had dreamed that I was going to die in surgery and that she would rather accept me the way that I am than to risk losing me. I feel that it is because she is ill that she worried so much, and I felt terrible about causing her more stress. I decided not to tell her my exact date, and we just snuck away on " vacation " and did not tell her until it was all over. She's happy for me now. Anyway. I hav'nt weighed in a few days, but I was down 36 pounds in 36 days last time I weighed. I hope that your family comes around. In the end, you have to do what is right for you despite what others say! Best Wishes. Stormy > Hi Gang: > > I am new to the group. Just beginning my search into the MGB process. Guest guest
Hi, Leisa, I am responding to your point about convincing your family about weight loss surgery. I am a preop, hoping to be a post op before Xmas, and have been working through lots of stuff to get to this point as well. My hubby has been a project. I have spent special time and effort, showing him data, transformation photos, and explaining the life-threatening aspects of morbid obesity. My efforts have paid off very well. He is very supportive at this point, and even yesterday told me he will take extra time off work if necessary while I am out of town for surgery, in order to see to the care of our three school-age children. Amazing how my persistence has helped him " get it. " Like most of us in this society, he has been of the opinion that my morbid obesity would be simply solved by me using will power and taking control of my diet, etc. He also has harbored the attitude of contempt toward me for being obese. Now that I have found a tool to make my efforts pay off, and am taking responsibility and initiative to make the changes happen for myself, he is sitting up, respecting and supporting me every step of the way. We have been together 20+ years, and I have made sure to let him know that I love him, and look forward to participating so much better in our family life. I think that he is glad to see me being proactive and open about my need to lose weight, rather than him telling me and me denying and being defensive about the whole issue. I don't know anything about your family situation, of course, but wanted to offer you my experience. Hang in there and keep chipping away at it! Best of luck on your journey! Hugs, t > > I am one of those unfortunate souls who is shouldering the additional burden of convincing my family that this surgery is the way to go.
