WEre you on something else, like Methotrexate, when you started the antibiotics? I'm interested in asking Dr. Buckner about this when I see her on Tuesday, but I also have just reached the point where the metho is kicking in and working. How long did it take for the antibiotics to start showing results for you? Anything else you can share would be great, when you're feeling up to it. Thanks! Guest guest Posted June 28, 2002 Report Share Posted June 28, 2002 Hi :-) Hey, :-0 we're almost neighbors! I live in eastern Washington, in Richland. I hope we can get together some day soon. As for the abx and methotrexate....although many people find the antibiotic treatment after they have already started the other drugs like Methotrexate, my doctor started me on the antibiotic protocol first. For those who are already on Methotrexate, it is best to gradually switch to the antibiotics and eliminate the other drugs, but this varies among docs and patients. It would be really neat if Dr. Buckner would go this route with you. It might help to let her know that Dr. Trentham has used the antibiotics for RP. If you have time, get a hold of a copy of Henry Scammell's book before your Tuesday appointment. It is called " The New Arthritis Breakthrough " and it will explain a lot about the treatment, although it does not specifically mention RP. You should be able to find it at your library or at and Noble. Another book that you can order from Amazon or from the publisher, but not yet the mass media is just out....it's called " Rheumatoid Arthritis - The Infection Connection. Targeting and Treating the Cause of Chronic Illness " by M. Poehlmann, Ph.D. (she wrote it as part of her doctoral dissertation) Also, if you want, you can search through the archived messages at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Rpolychondritis/ and type in maybe " Connie H " to read any of my old posts, or maybe type in " Minocin " or some such thing. Also, you can read my story (it's listed under Connie/Dermatomyositis) at http://www.rheumatic.org/medhist.htm I do need to update it since I am no longer on the zithromax, but Biaxin and two more doctors have told me that I most likely have RP in addition to dermatomyositis.
