Guest guest
Hi, Yes, the scans are giving us more data. Even our monthly scans are showing measurement error and with really slow growth it is difficult to tell what exactly is going on. Our ortho told us that older babies can go months without growth and then have a growth spurt. Our scans are showing growth, but very slow growth. The ortho told my husband that my son can wear the Starband helmet until he out grows it. (I'm not sure how serious he was.) He also said we won't see a lot of growth. My husband took this to mean that my son can stay in the helmet a really long time. Is there any problem with using the Starband helmet longer than 6 months? At some point is it not as effective? Would it be more effective to switch to a newer Doc band if CT will agree to it?  Our son's case is now mild. The trend of our level 3 measurements and contours are going very slowly in the right direction. We're puzzled by what is happening at level 5. Up high is where we still see most the asymmetry. My husband will send more information from my address after he talks with our ortho. Thanks, Kathy, mom to , almost 15 months, Starband for plagio since 12 months wrote:  ,  You are correct in that there may very well be too little change to determine with hand measurements. A scan would be more likely to pick up a mm or two. And at this age, your changes are most likely to be in those small incriments. It may take a little longer for the changes to be measureable using hand tools.   Re: Sleepless nights....  I haven't read all the messages on this thread, but has anyone suggested memory foam? I never used it myself and definitely only use it if you feel comfortable, but I know a lot of moms have bought the twin size at Target or somewhere and then cut it down to fit the crib. You put it under the fitted sheet and it should help their heads nestle into the mattress and hopefully make it more comfortable. I think what the problem is, is that when they are laying on their back, the helmet is being pushed forward down on their forehead, and/or it's pushing their whole head forehead so that their chin is touching their chest, which they probably don't like. If the head is nestled into the mattress, their chin won't be so forward and it seems to help. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I'm not sure about how long the STARband material is good for. I know that CT is strict about the 16 weeks and I've heard somewhere that the STARband works for 6 months. We kept 's on at night past the 6 months and I have no clue whether or not it really helped, but I figure it could not have hurt. I hope someone else has the answer to your question.
