Guest guest
Heidi, I don't think you are the first one to want to decrease pain med. I hate it when I call the doctor for more pain meds and the person on the other end (with no medical education) tells you that you need to start weening off the pain meds. I recently called my panc doc to get more breakthrough pain meds and the girl who answered the phone said " what happened to the script that was filled on 07/13/04 " ? The day I called was 07/30/04 and I just got out of the hospital two days before. When I finally got to speak to the nurse practitioner she said under no means should I try to ween myself from pain meds at this time. She said my Panc was still angry from the surgery a week previously. It's people in doctor offices like above make us question ourselves if we are drug seakers or not. I know I'm not and I wish I could quit but my doc thinks I need to keep the same dose or I will end up in the hospital again. Just be honest with your PM doc and let him know that you tried to do what he suggested and it didn't work. That you had to use your breakthrough pain more than usual on the lower dose. I hope this helps Patty Duley
