Guest guest
Well the enzymes did the same for me, I don't take them anymore. I still get nauseated everyday but I am somewhat used to it (two years now) but for really bad attacks of nausea I take Zofran ODT 8mg. It's the only thing that works as good as an IV. It's expensive as hell but it works instantly. As for pain everyone is different, again I'm kinda used to it and other than at bedtime I probably could get by with just the Percocets. I take the highest dose you can get 10/750 for daytime attacks and usually get by with just 20mg Oxy-contin twice a day. Not to bad considering I started out on a fentanyl patch 100mg and 160 mg OC twice a day with maybe 4 to 6 percocets. I can get thru the day on the pills much better than dealing with the pain and nausea without..... If they had something that would give me a pain free day I would take it regardless of what anyone thinks. Guest guest
, There are different pancreatic enzymes, and some work better for people than others. If this particular enzyme is giving you so much trouble, I would ask your doctor to substitute it for another, before you give them up entirely. If your taking a non-enteric coated enzyme like Viokase, which is a matte finished tablet, then you need to be taking an antiacid before you take the enzymes, to prevent the acid in your stomach from destroying the enzyme before it reaches the intestines. If this is the type of enzyme you're taking, make sure that you're also taking that antiacid FIRST. Some doctors aren't aware that this is necessary, and prescribe that type of enzyme without the antiacid. This negates the purpose of the enzyme entirely and can cause additional pain and discomfort for the patient. The enteric coated enzymes are products like Lipram, Ultrase and Creon. They have a gel coating with a capsule formation with tiny microbeads inside. This type of enzyme doesn't need any antiacids to be taken with it. If you're taking one type or the other, you might try switching to the opposite type to see if that works better for you. In regard to your medication for pain, you shouldn't need to worry about addiction. Most patients with a chronic pain condition do find themselves reliant upon some type of pain medication in order to function. The type you need, and dosage you require, is usually best determined by thorough testing with a pain management doctor, or a doctor who has extensive experience with cancer patients and the use of all the different type of opiods. When you are using a narcotic for the prevention or lessening of pain, you do not become addicted to it. You're taking only the amount necessary to make it possible for you to function, and nothing more. You're not taking it to get " high " or feel a buzz. This is what differentiates an addict from a chronic pain patient. An addict wants the drugs to induce a high, and will continually seek higher and higher amounts of the drug that will do this. His body becomes addicted to the narcotics and he doesn't feel well without having it, going into withdrawal, the shakes and becoming sickly feeling. When you are taking pain medication to allieviate your pain, you use only what you need to function, and while your body can become " dependent " upon the medication, it isn't an addiction to it. Once a pain patient is properly dosed on the correct medication, they don't need additional medication in higher amounts to get by. Talk to your doctor about referrring you to a pain management doctor if you chose, to help you with your medication needs. Let us know if there is anything more we can do to help you. Guest guest
I'm assuming Tylenol etc is not SCD legal. What do you give for fevers, colds etc? Also, we are now on Day 2 (the right way) and was wondering do we keep on the intro diet for a few more days until he poops? Thanks, Tumpa Reinhardt To the world you may be one person, to one person you are the world~Anonymous
Guest guest
If you're meaning liquid children's Tylenol.... no, it's not legal. On the rare occasion that I give my daughter Tylenol (she does not have autism), I use one plain, regular strength adult Tylenol tablet (that's the correct dosage for my 70 lb. 10-yr-old)... and just grind it up and mix in applesauce. Some people get Tylenol or Ibuprofen compounded at a special compounding pharmacy. Two days of intro diet are enough, unless the individual has severe diarrhea. Please refer to the constipation protocol on Elaine's website, www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info (in the " Knowledge Base " ) if your son is constipated. Guest guest
I think most of us that are on meds have to deal with illegals. It's very expensive to get meds compounded to be legal, and there are also meds that can't be compounded. If you need it, take it. I take Pentasa, Venlafaxine, Zyrtec, and LDN, and unfortunately, they all have at least 1 illegal. My BCP also has illegals. But all my supplements are legal, and I've never cheated food-wise, so I've still done lots of good healing on SCD :-). Guest guest
According to http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_d-n.htm , dextrose is illegal. Magnesium is pretty easy to find legal though. Does your husband suffer from diarrhea? If so, don't get magnesium oxide or magnesium citrate, as they both draw water into the bowel. If I recall, magnesium glycinate is bowel neutral. Can anyone second this, or am I wrong? Holly Yes, magnesium glycinate is supposed to be bowel neutral. I say supposed to be, because for me no, it is not. But it's very mild. THe oxide form I think could unconstipate an elephant.

Guest guest
I've been on LDN since last Dec/Jan. I don't have knee pain anymore, and I sleep a bit better on it, but I haven't noticed any difference gut-wise. I still eat a pretty limited diet. I can't say it's boosted my immune system either. The whole time I was on Humira and Imuran, I never caught a single cold/flu/virus. I've caught something now though (first time in many years), and have had whatever this virus like thing is for over a week. Seems LDN is the not my miracle drug :-( Holly I think LDN works differently for each of us. I've been on it since last October 1st. I haven't yet noticed any gut help either. Or not that I know of. It definitely has not helped pain yet. However, even three days after I started on 1.0mg, it started helping fight off the near-constant viral attacks I had had for years. I mean, like at least 5 days every single week with a cold or worse. What's interesting is, now I will have that virus for an hour, 30 minutes, a couple of hours. I can feel the LDN fighting and getting rid of it. So if only for that, I'll keep it. I've also had help from a couple of small auto-immune things. So I think it's like the diet, it's a long-term thing. We can't expect quick miracles any more than we can from the diet.
Guest guest
Marilyn, thank-you for your reply on Magnesium question, tell me what site or sites to shop for vitamins, also bought Barney some enzymes, please commet. I'm not Marilyn but I'll duck in here. I order almost all my supplements on-line. I use swansonsvitamins.com, vitacost.com and vitaminshoppe.com the most. If I'm doing a biggish order I will set up tabs for all three and start comparing prices, sales, etc before I decide where to get things this time. But these three are where I order the most. And I HIGHLY recommend that you have nothing to do with myvitanet.com. I had an order last year where they sent me the wrong stuff, and after nine months of " don't worry, we are sending it " letters, I never did get the right stuff and was just out my $85.00. They may be OK if everything goes right but they sure aren't if things aren't right.

I'm sure others will have their suggestions for their favorite places to get vitamins.
