I've gone through BTVS, the BTVS web site, the messages search function, etc

and just cannot find any information on Star Fruit. Does anyone know

anything about the legality of it?

However, I did find two really interesting posts - one from 2004 (the first

one) and one from this year, (the second one).

Carol,

Actually, Elaine is continuously researching new things because there are

always new things on the market.

That's why I posted the method by which I determined that agave syrup is

not legal. (And sent both procedure and results to Elaine.)

Elaine has said over and over that she had given us the guidelines Dr. Haas

gave her. Following those guidelines, it's possible to approve things like

tomatillos, which aren't mentioned in BTVC.

One reason I found BTVC works for me is that Elaine explains the WHY of the

diet. That way, people can make such determinations.

There's plenty of variety, but Elaine wrote BTVC based on life in the US

Northeast. As a consequence, sometimes, it's necessary to adapt to local

conditions.

For instance, DCCC is NOT available lots of places. (England, Ohio,

Louisiana, just to name a few locations.)

Or, some people do better with nut yogurt or sauerkraut for probiotics

instead of good SCD dairy yogurt.

The recipes in BTVC are also based on Elaine's own experience -- and most

of the 200 recipes I've created are based on Louisiana cooking, and are

very different from either those in Lucy's cookbook (which is based on US

Northwest cooking) or the recipes in SCD WITH TASTE & TRADITION which are

kosher, and based on Long Island cooking. (Trust me: Taste & Tradition

would get taken apart by the wonderful cooks who created Kosher Cajun and

Kosher Creole! It has good recipes, but none of our Louisiana pazaz!)

So people do need to know how they can make determinations. It's part of

the learning process by which tentative newcomers become seasoned SCD

wranglers, helping people start down the road to healing.

<wicked grin> I remember when our most talented web mistress and purveyer

of the Sneaky Pancake was a tentative newcomer.... (don't hit me, Jody!

I'm hoping a moderator can help me with this one...

How can I check the legality/illegality of foods that are not on the " Legal

list " at the BTVC.info website? My daughter needs to be on a four-day

rotated diet and to have enough foods (especially vegies) to spread among

the four days, I would like to be able to feed her these foods -- but they

aren't on the list:

Arugula (cabbage family, leafy greens)

Beet greens

Turnip greens

Kohlrabi

New Zealand spinach

Miner's lettuce

Dandelion greens

Curly endive

Escarole

Sunflower seed sprouts (just stems and leaves)

Fennel -- bulb

Fennel -- juice of leaves and stems

When Elaine was researching foods, how did she do it? Was there a

reference book she used? Is there an online database where I could look up

foods, and what would I be looking for to know something was " illegal " ?

Thanks!

Kayla

I gather that there is a method for testing new foods for the SCD. Did I

miss it when I was reading the book? I've been known to just miss things

when I read, so that wouldn't surprise me. Or is it something that can be

explained to the list? Either way, I would be interested in knowing as I

really love a variety of ethnic foods and have always been an avid cook -

experimenting with new recipes.

Thanks

Jazz

All I could find on Starfruit was:

There is mention of lactic acid. I am not qualified to interpret it. perhaps

someone else

can,
