Guest guest
One of the issues that the cincy doc had with my cp is that my lipase has never been elevated. The highest was in the 100's and that was after an ercp. The fact that he even said that did not exactly fill me with encouragement as to his knowledge of the disease. My docs here feel that since it has never been elevated that is greater evidence that I have had this condition for a very long time without knowing. My docs have not put me on any enzymes, ever. I'm not exactly sure why not, Ive never really asked. But Ido recall being told to restrict my fat intake to less then 30g per day and that how my body reacts to what I take in is a good indicator of how I am doing. It did not take long to realize that fat was my enemy. I supplemented my body's need for fat, and we do need fat, with Flaxseed oil caps, 2 grams a day. Its the same as the fish oils but doesn't give you that fishey breathe. However, I am not sure their opinion was the best as I am on the tube feedings because of malnutrition; and to let the panc rest. I think because I was obese before all this started and am still on the chunky side (need a tummy tuck big time) that the natural dietary behavior modification that is associated with this condition would be more beneficial for me at the time. We have discussed the pros and cons letting the body adjust at its own biological pace and I have always been a proponet of that theory, and still am. So there are two schools of thought on dietary fat and enzyme usage. I think the bottom line is to do what works for each individual. No ones body is going to react the same way to anything. We each have to try on different treatments until we find the one that fits us best. Sorry for rambling on so much, but I guess I am making up for loss time...lol.
