The tablet forms of those meds, while they do still contain some illegal

starches, at least have no sugar or artificial color and flavorings. Katera

needed antibiotics for an ear infection a couple of years ago and I requested

the tablets (amoxicillin), which I then ground up and mixed in applesauce. I

asked the pharmacist if it was okay to do that and she said yes... no problem.

Unfortunately, Katera then had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic and can't

ever have any of the 'cillin drugs again.... but oh, well!

Elaine Gottschall always said that we should do the best we can to eliminate

illegals but when it comes to a medication, if the child needs the drug, then

they must have it, despite a bit of illegal starch.

Katera takes a seizure med every day (Keppra) that I get in tablet form and

grind up...... and yes, there are starch fillers, but I could never afford a

compounded version. This prescription as we get it now costs $350 a month! ($50

out of pocket for us... just the co-pay). Our ins would not cover a compounded

version.

Do the tablet forms of amoxicillin and zithromax have fewer illegals in them,

and can they be ground up without destroying the antibiotic?

Sounds like your life would be a lot easier, your pocketbook fatter, and your

son healthier, if your son could swallow pills. Does he just not know how, or

have some medical issue that makes swallowing pills impossible? Because at age

8 without a medical issue, he should be able to learn. We taught our son at age

6, the way you get a pill down a dog... greasing pills with butter, holding him

down and putting it far back on the back of his tongue, and holding his mouth

shut. He screamed bloody murder for a couple of days, then stopped fighting and

started swallowing. Ever since, he can swallow pills without water even! Big

ones, too. Even I can't do that.
