Jodie's progress

Hey all,

Jodie is doing better. She was extubated on Friday (the 13th), three days after

her last surgery. Friday was a busy day for Jodie. She had her central IV line

changed, from one side of her neck, to the other. Well, at first it was in her

shoulder/upper chest area. Had an x-ray, saw it wasn't in correctly, then had

the central line moved (again) to the right side of her neck. The " A " line that

was in her right wrist from surgery, which they had been using for blood samples

and that kept constant track of her blood pressure, exploded, as Jodie

explained, on Friday morning, too. Before all the hubbub with her central line.

It was spurting blood everywhere, and her nurse got it under control and then

they just removee it. Jodie had her hair washed (for the first time in about

two weeks). Before her surgery, she was feeling so bad she kept insisting that

she didn't want it washed because she just didn't care. The regular shampoo

caps they have don't help her hair at all

. They almost seem to make her hair worse. But, finally, she got her hair

washed with her 'real' shampoo and it looks decent again. She is in much better

spirits and has been making plans for the fall with our friends to go to

amusement parks. She was never much of a ride-fan anyway, but just the idea of

'making plans' is a nice change of pace. Her side incisions are about 6 inches

long each. Jodie said they don't hurt much, which is good. Her pain meds have

steadily decreased from 35 mg back to 10, which is right about where she was

pre-third-surgery. She also started back on the tube feeding on Friday. The

amount has slowly increased each day, closer to where she was pre-surgery also.

Thank you so much to those who have sent cards, books, cds, and postcards!!!

Thank you kindly! Jodie and I appreciate it very, very much!

peace, melissa
