Yes, I would do it again, and my husband's a physician with credentials and training out the wazoo, and HE really thinks a great deal of this surgery. We spent a huge amount of time researching it, talking it over, and we finally got comfortable. This is after we heard about 1) a death following surgery, 2) horrible, long-lasting complications following surgery, and 3) slow to non-existent weight loss following surgery. Here was my reasoning: NONE of the surgeries guarantee perfect weight loss, although a majority seem to succeed quite well. ALL of the surgeries can be fatal, and can lead to major complications. Dr. Rutledge was the only surgeon who took the time to address my concerns, by email, in person, and through the MGB support groups and on his website. One half of my extended family - my father's side - are bigger than barns, and my father died at age 52 of obesity-related illness. My choice seemed obvious, but I still treated it as the life-and-death decision that it really is. You, and only you, will know if you are making the right decision: not your husband, not anyone else on this list, not me, not your best friends. YOU. You're the one who will be dealing with the new digestive system, the dumping, the frustrations, the joys. It's your body. Good luck to you. Guest guest
Blair, Thanks for the great post. I am a preop (12 days and counting) and I am convinced of my decision but would be lying if I said that everytime I see something else posted from you know who or others I get a little catch in my stomach. I too know that nothing is without risk and I believe for me the risk of staying as heavy as I am outweight the risks with surgery. My biggest fear actually is inadequate weight loss but I am one of the ones who will settle for significant - it doesn't have to be perfect. I would love to see my goal weight someday but will take a " normal " size in a heartbeat! on Surgery date 10/04/00 > In a message dated 9/22/00 11:34:18 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > MiniGastricBypass (AT) egroups (DOT) com writes: > > << I had 26 contacts for my packet and all 26, who were chosen randomly, > responded with praise and ALL said if they had it to do again YES they would. > WOULD YOU? >> > > Hi, Gwen: > > I just posted something to a short while ago, along these same lines. > > Yes, I would do it again, and my husband's a physician with credentials and > training out the wazoo, and HE really thinks a great deal of this surgery. > We spent a huge amount of time researching it, talking it over, and we > finally got comfortable. > > This is after we heard about 1) a death following surgery, 2) horrible, > long-lasting complications following surgery, and 3) slow to non- existent > weight loss following surgery. > > Here was my reasoning: NONE of the surgeries guarantee perfect weight loss, > although a majority seem to succeed quite well. Guest guest
Hi Blair, thanks for your input. If my husband were a doc and felt comfortable with the surgery, that is all it would take for me. Im sure you helped decrease alot of peoples fear about the surgery. How is your weight loss by the way??
