Guest guest
After reading one of the postings recently about the need to use the beginner's diet, it made me aware of the fact that I haven't. The reason being, when Amy started SCD in Jan 06, she had received an IGg result, stating chicken, eggs, onions, and other products were intolerated. She also was GFCF due to Dan doctor. I therefore would not have been able to feed her! Despite this, she had a VERY SEVERE die off- 4-5 weeks of issues, including high fever and lethargy, I was stunned. Now she is doing better, and despite a short period in the summer, where i reintroduced rice and potatoes(which caused a regression- That period actually convinced me it was the diet for her- I'd just found it unbearably hard, and was trying to find an excuse to stop it, to make things a bit easier at home!)and a couple of innocent infractions, she is following it daily and doing well. The summer period saw her lose " contact " with us, loss of language, repetitive verbal stimming and violent behaviour returning. She has now gained lost ground, and is making good progress. Since I am now more mentally committed to the diet, and have seen Amy tolerate the foods above(still GFCF) I am now in a position to do the beginner's diet. My question is, could she still have a die off period? Since she has been following the diet for about 8months, how long should I do it for? From Wed we're doing some HBOT treatment with her for 1 month, so my intention is to start when that is finished. I am also the one who has tried, but failed with nut yoghurt. Since she is autistic, what do you feel about her using goat milk for the yoghurt? (Again, after finishing HBOT treatment) I kno wit is only opinions, and I am going to consult my Dan doctor again about it on Wed at my next appointment. Guest guest
Two days of the intro diet would be plenty. Yes, you could see more die-off.... it's impossible for us to know ahead of time... but you could. Goat yogurt is the standard on this list for children with autism. It is assumed that many of them were CF prior to starting SCD, so we advise waiting a few weeks/months before trying goat yogurt... and then starting with a VERY tiny amount.... just a quarter teaspoon or less. If you have seen her react to goat milk products in the past, or if you have other reason to believe she will have a dramatic negative reaction to it, you will just have to think it over, talk to her doctor, or?? One way to " test " her tolerance for the goat dairy itself would be to try a very small amount of legal goat cheese first. That way, you will not be confused by additional die-off that the yogurt could trigger. patti beginners diet After reading one of the postings recently about the need to use the beginner's diet, it made me aware of the fact that I haven't.
