yeah our neurosurgeon said that too, that if it didnt you would see adultys with crooked heads, boy did that make sense but then i started looking and i do. ppl with hair it was most noticable in the ears which was an issue for my son but ppl with less hair you could tell on the head or girls who had very straight hair you could tell by the way it laid. i figured if the rate of plagio back when these ppl were babies was only 1 in 250 compared to todays 1 in 60 and i still see all these adults with crooked heads then they must not round out at all

They generally won't recommend banding unless the plagio is bad enough (generally over 10mm difference). You can work towards a rounder head through repositioning, but it doesn't get the results a band does. I would take the pedi's suggestion and get a second opinion from a specialist. We were referred to a craniofacial plastic surgeon at 3 months and ended up getting a helmet at 4 1/2 months. We were heart broken about it, questioned the doctors recommendations and so on. Now that we have the helmet, I regret nothing. In fact I'm glad we made the decision when we did as you generally get the most correction between 4 and 9 months as that's when they are growing the fastest. With banding early you'll generally see results in the first two weeks which for me enforced that we did make the right decision.

my sons was like that, the one side of his head was so flat that the opposite side had a bulge behind his ear. on the flat side his ear was pinned to his head but on the other side the bulge pushed it out as well as forward and down so it was way off. we did see correction of the ears though that was the last to correct, my son wore the docband from 9-12 months. we noticed before 2 mo though, we knew he had plagio at 5 mo though and official dx at 6 mo and wish i had banded sooner.

btw my son was picky, he also hated hats so i was worried the first 15 min in it he didnt fuss but played with it and tried to take it off but once distracted he never noticed but maybe once again the rest of the day. he had a little trouble falling asleep in the car on the way home (it was a 2 hr drive and past nap time) but was fine at bedtime. nursing took some getting used to for me though. it is weird b/c being older he would cover his head as i went to put a hat on and then rip it right off but could care less about the band. actually after bath if he saw it he would try to put it on. i am curious now if he remembers or just asspciates it with a bike helmet (which it looks nothing like) b/c he saw it the other day (he is 2 now so graduated a yr ago) and tried to put it on. and desipte having very sensitive skin it didnt bother him. despite already being a sensitive sleeper it didnt bother him. AND he was fitted in sc during the hottest time of the year, august on the hottest day of the year to that point, it ended up breaking a record as like 14 days over 100 degrees. he did sweat a lot the 1st day but it improved from there not to say he didnt sweat at all outside on a hot day though. i was worried about all these things, ppl on here reassured me but i mostly thought, yeah right, theyve never met my kid, but it really was fine

I was really worried and anxious about the Doc Band b/c I was afraidof its discomfort for my son, who cries when I even put a little haton him. He can't stand the heat and ironically we live in sunnyCalifornia. We do have an appt tomorrow for a consultation b/c our

still only 4 months old, he should only be wearing it for about 2months. Do the ears get corrected as well? I am also afraid of hisflat head coming back when he's done with the Band but I am planningon carrying him in a sling or carrier from now on b/c I've put him in

DITTO to ! We heard the same song and dance from our pedi and by 9 month

s we had switched pedis to another one that said that was nonsense. That there

was some chance that it might round out by 6 months, but from that point on ,

b/c repositioining is so hard to do, that chance was unlikely. The new pedi

actually knew our old pedi, they'd gone to school together and he highly

respected the old one, but DID NOT agree with his prognosis. At least look for

another opinion if you are unsure!

It's possible to regress, but fairly rare to happen. The older they get the slower the growth and the less mold-able the skull. Unless you have another issue in tandem (like tort) between the head rounding out and them being more mobile, you shouldn't have an issue with them continuing to lie on the same flat spot.

Facial asymmetry and lopsided ears and so on will also be corrected at least partially. Those things are generally the last things to correct.

I'm glad you and your husband are feeling better about getting a band. As hard as it is now I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision as soon as you start seeing improvement. As bad as it sounds he is, you could be looking at a second band, depending on how much he improves in the first. Just something to prepare for. KUP!
