Patty, I did try the MOM and then Metamucil with my doctor's approval a couple years ago. After a month or more of trial, I was still having a tremendous amount of difficulty with my bowel movements, often constipated, and one time I had a horrible impaction..... which I didn't mention on the MB, because I was embarrassed about it, but I will now if it would save someone else from going through that same misery!! It was absolutely horrible!! I had also tried Colace, Benefiber, and Senecot, and was eating prunes every morning. Nothing was working for me. You may be different, though. I did find that the Metamucil drastically increased all the bloating and gas problems that we already have with CP. I haven't been bloated now in over a year, since I started on the Miralax. I'd had some tiny hemmoroids as a result of my first child's childbirth that would only occcasionally become irritated over the years, maybe once or twice a year. They were easily treated with a suppository and vanished within a day or two. Well, after a year of problems with difficult motility because of the CP pain meds, those hemmoroids doubled in size and became a daily irritant. My intern even refered me to a surgeon for removal, but I didn't want to do it. The only thing that gave me any relief from all of this problem was the Miralax. If I use that about every three days, everything runs very smoothly. All I can say is that if these products don't work as effectively as you need after a few weeks trial, ask for something better right away. I couldn't believe the difference between the Miralax and the Metamucil, and was really irritated at my old GI doctor for not prescibing it sooner, because I complained to him of problems with motility every time I went to see him. He just kept saying to " get more fiber in your diet " . If he'd prescribed it sooner, I may never have had such a problem with those hemmoroids. I don't see this doctor anymore. Good luck, Patty, with whatever you decide. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep.
