Maureen, welcome to the club. It sounds like you are doing great so

far. I think that your goal of 20% is very attainable, and you might

surprise yourself and exceed it.

What have you done about your knee problems? Have you tried the

glucosamine-condroiton (sp?) stuff? I know many poeple who get

relief that way. I've also heard that one tblsp of apple cider

vinigar in 8 oz of water once a day does wonders too.

Have a great BFL day.

Alys,

Thanks for the ecouragement. As far as the knee pain, it seems to

have gotten a bit better already. I think the main problem was

constant running without any other exercise was just too much impact.

Also, I used to run in dirt then due to a move had to run on

pavement. Now I use the treadmill for cardio, and the strenght

training seems to be improving my knee problem. If it re-occurs I'll

try your recommendation.

Maureen,

I've often read that strenthening the the muscles that suround and

support the knee is great for reducing knee pain. Glad to hear that

it is working for you.

Plan ahead every night, what you are going to eat the next day and

what your workout is. Right your goals and reread them every night.

HAve faith and follow BFL to the letter.

Welcome!

My bit of advice would be to not let the soreness you will definitely feel from

time to time sway you from continuing your workouts. Your legs will hurt so

much that you'll have trouble moving! But that's a good sign. There were posts

on here recently that talked about the " potty " factor - how difficult it was to

get on and off the toilet. A sign of a good leg workout! Also - make sure you

drink all of your water. Another thing to get used to is actually using the

bathroom probably twice as much as you usually did before.

And....take advantage of your " free " days. I think most people here really rely

on them. If you know you have a day coming where you can " cheat " without guilt,

then it usually makes sticking with clean eating easier during the week.

Good luck and check back often!

Welcome aboard. Any questions that you may have please feel free to post

them. We all do our best to support eachother. OH, also don't throw a

hissy fit if no one responds right away (we've had a few newbies get put off

because no one responded quickly), sometimes we all get caught up in a

message string and miss a new post. Also, I know that any newbie post gets

put in my junk bin because of my spam filter. I catch most of them before I

hit delete, but occasisonally I miss them.

Hi Sharon,

Our story is very similar , all symptoms, normal bloods. Even the

lump in the neck! I've now grown two in the last twenty years!

How lovely that you have a supportive colleague. So important when

all this is going on to have someone who understands.

You've come to a good place here, I've only been a member for a few

weeks but have learnt such a lot from all the knowledgeable folk.

I'm too on that rocky road of trying to get my health sorted, watch

this space. I'll also be interested to read how you do.

I'm feeling postitive though. Just this week I got to see an

enocrinologist, it's taken a while, but now more bloods are being

run. TSH is only one measure, and doesn't tell the whole tale, you

seem to know that already, I've only found that out from tpa!

Good luck to you, I hope you begin to feel well soon, take care,

Hi Sharon

Welcome to the forum, it is indeed a slow rocky road especially

because of the 'accepted' protocol which seems to be ignore the

symptoms and go by marks on paper only, grrrr. You will get lots of

help from people going through the same as you here and people who

against all odds are managing to regain their health. Its terrible to

have to fight tooth and claw when you are ill but it appears to be the

design of the system.

Lots of luv and good luck

Hi Sharon

Welcome to our forum and I hope you get the help and support you need. I am pleased you have the support of a lovely work colleague - this is so important. You will find loads here too, and the majority of members here have also been badly let down by the NHS because the poor doctors simply don't know what they are doing, because they have been taught nothing about thyroid illness. No wonder your poor doctor is packing you off to all sorts of doctors and leaving them to try to find out what is wrong. ly, it looks like you might have to take your health into your own hands as many of us have had to do who are here.

WHY doctors assume your Free T4 and Free T3 are 'normal' because your TSH of 2.1 is 'normal' (which it isn't necessarily) I have no idea. Did your doctor even test your blood to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid? Did she ask if there were other members in your family with a thyroid problem or an autoimmune disease. Did she even examine you or take your BP or test your blood to see if you have high cholesterol. Did she palpate your neck?

Go to our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk and click on 'Hypothyroidism' in the Menu. Then click on 'Symptoms and Signs' in the drop down Menu and compare your symptoms against the list there. Check out how many of the 'Signs' you have and write these down and show them to your GP. She might not be even aware that there are 'signs' that would help her in reaching a diagnosis. NHS doctors are SO terrified of diagnosing and treating outside of the mainstream protocol because they might be reported to the GMC by a certain organisation who believes that few people are hypothyroid, that blood results are the only way to reach a diagnosis, that you only treat with the magic tablet levothyroxine as this works for everybody and that most of us are suffering a 'somatoform disorder' if we complain of symptoms when taking L-thyroxine.

While on the website, read everything you can about hypothyroidism and the associated conditions that can go alongside. Read about the different treatments and what the different thyroid hormones do and the part they play in keeping you healthy. Once you start to understand how things work, you will know what you can do to help yourself. Keep asking questions, keep telling us how you are and what these other doctors think and what diagnosis and medicines they prescribe for you.

You might get a diagnosis of fibromyalgia for the aches and pains and muscle spasms. Fibromyalgia is treated with T3 (the active thyroid hormone). T3 is needed by every cell in your body to make it function, and lack of it will cause brain fog and muscle spasms and joint pains. Some people say fibromyalgia is a dustbin diagnosis, which is given because again, doctors don't know how to diagnose hypothyroidism.

You are in the right group here, and hopefully, you will get loads of help here. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

luv - Sheila

I have a full A4 sheet list of symptoms that are all symptoms of hypothyroidism, including a suspicious lump on my lower front of neck that is very much a goitre like lump. Because my TSH has come back normal (2.1) the doctor is referring me to different consultants, one for the aches and pains, joint pains, muscle spasms .... the list goes on! and another consultant for the lump on my neck. Tests for T3 and T4 she wouldn't do as my TSH was normal. These I have sent of for a testing kit to get done myself.

Thank you all for your replies and keeping me positive that I will find out what is wrong ... eventually! My doctor only tested TSH, blood pressure, and quickly felt the lump in my neck and that was all. I am having my T3 and T4 and antibodies done esle where. Fingers crossed I will get results soon. I will keep updating on my progress and thanks to you all again. Sharon.x

My son is 6 months old and is being fitted for his Doc Band tomorrow.

I'm curious to here from others how it affects babies of this age at

first. I have a lot of questions...will he sleep? Will he be

uncomfortable? Any insight or tips would be greatly appreciated.
