You wrote, " I wasn't aware that Oxycodone was the same stuff in Percocet. Isn't

that along the line of codeine? I seem to do better with Demerol. Does that make

any sense? "

It seems that several posts have addressed that Codeine, Percocet, Oxycontin,

etc. are derived from Opioids. The type and amount of side effects people have

depend on the amount taken, of course. The reason why many people are able to

tolerate Percocet more than the pure Oxycontin or even the Codeine is the way

the Percocet is metabolized. Oxycontin and Tylenol when combined to form

Percocet don't break down back into the Oxycontin and Tylenol. The biochemical

reaction caused when Percocet breaks down actually creates a by-product that is

chemically similar to Dilaudid. This is not the recommended way to obtain the

type of medication needed. My doctor explained it to me and said that it is more

so used to identify those patients that would do better on Dilaudid than

Oxycontin.
