Guest guest
Morning - I just had a very nice note from Judith in Seattle who thought that this note might be appropriate for the pre-op list as well as the post-ops. This was written concerning the thread on the list about medic alert bracelets - the pros and cons ..... I have been reading about the thoughts on the medic alert bracelets, and a comment from someone kind of jumped out at me -- " the surgery was demeaning " . I hope that I did not get that out of context ... my thoughts on this ... I have to completely disagree with that statement. Having the surgery has empowered me, given me a new life and allowed me freedoms that I have not had for a long time. When someone says to me " how did you lose so much weight? " I have NO difficulty in discussing the procedure with them -- I am very proud that I finally took a stand to end the circle of dieting-losing-gaining-dieting that I had been in for 20 years or so. As far as I'm concerned, it took courage for us to have this procedure -- courage to finally say enough! of feeling yucky all the time, enduring the comments by and do something about it. I have never felt demeaned or embarrassed about having this procedure -- it has made me stronger! I have NO problems at all discussing it with anyone. thank you for that opportunity to be assertive (another new found thing for me!) ...
