Guest guest
Hi - I will answer question #2 . About a month ago I posted pictures of my son Merrick in the M folder--I'm referring the three that are side- by-side photos. It shows the progress after one month of repositioning, and believe me, I was OCD about it and luckily I had a laid back baby that went along. We did make some progress, and I felt very good about that--but it wasn't enough. We went from the severe category to moderate, but the facial asymatry didn't change. I'm still a big proponent on doing the positing while waiting for the band or deciding, or whatever, so that time isn't lost or further growth in the areas you don't want it, but as far as resolving the plagio--I don't think that we would have gotten there with repo alone. Oh--and that was at three months old, when he was growing a lot. The reason that we decided to go ahead and band at four months was so that we could hopefully catch some of the good growth spurts that occur at that age, we were not comfortable with waiting around and waiting to see what happened, only then to have to band and wear it longer than if we would have done it at four months. Guest guest
I can't answer number 1 but I can help you with the others. 2. There is really no exact answer to this one. No two kids area like so no two resuts are going to be the same. You have heard from a coupe people who have said repositioning will probably not work, but all you can do is try. I started repositioning my daughter when she was 3 1/2 months old and I saw a tremendous amount of change between 5 and 6 months. Repositioning CAN work. Sometimes it doesn't, but if you want to keep trying to reposition until 6 1/2 months, you still have plenty of time to get great correction from a band/helmet. (which I guess answers one of your other questions as well). As a matter of fact, 6 months was the deadline I set myself with my dd's repo. I evaluated our progress at her 6 month well baby visit and decided to pass on the band. So if you want to keep repositioning until 6.5 months, do it and don't let yourself be discouraged. Then re-evaluate your child's head at that time and make a decision then about the band. 3. A well-made band should not cause a baby's forehead to flatten or become misshapen. I hope this has helped. You can look at my daughter's repositioning progress in the Photos section under Before and After - Repositioning. Look for S. Guest guest
Maybe see about getting a free 2nd opinion consult? http://www.cranialtech.com/cliniclocations/clinics.html Looks like there is a licensed center for CT bands near you. Our CT facility here (owned by CT) offers free initial consults, but since it looks like the center near you is not owned by CT, I'm not sure about the free consult, but it wouldn't hurt to call and ask them. -Margaret (10 mos. Guest guest
I read both versions :-) My daughter wore a starband for brachy (flat in back) and didn't have any forehead issues. I don't think there are generally problems with the forehead. My daughter started at 5 mo and I was glad, but she was pretty severe. Starting at 6.5 mo with 10 mm of asymmetry should be fine too. If you do decide to wait take good pictures and compare every 2 weeks. You want to make sure it doesn't get worse while you wait. -christine sydney, almost 3 yrs, starband grad > > In case my last post was too long, here's a summary > of my questions. > 1. Guest guest
1. We live in KC and did not go to Dr Singhal because they could not get us in for 4 months, whereas Dr. Jeff Coyler got us in 1 day. I've heard Dr Singhal is good, but from our experience with the cranial referring doctor ... he spent 1 minute with us, looked at her head, measured and said it was considered mild (15 mm) and up to us. I thought it wasn't mild, that we needed to do something about it and went to the referred orthotist and worked with him for the rest of the time. We are extremely happy with the results. I saw that someone else posted a link to CranialTech for the DocBand in KC -- but that branch closed several years ago. But we were very happy with the StarBand made for us. 2. No one knows, but it's definitely worth trying. Never hurts a thing. Could only help. 3. I've never heard of this. Our daughter's forehead had a bulging effect and the helmet fixed that so that her forehead looked much better afterwards 4. Not necessary. All you need are some good growth spurts and you could see very good results. We started right after her 7 mo mark and ended one week shy of her 1st birthday. Please feel free to contact me if you have KC-related questions. I'd be happy to share. Thanks, Maggie > > In case my last post was too long, here's a summary > of my questions. > 1. Guest guest
Thank you all so much for responding. Actually, I just made the casting appointment for next week. I know myself and I think that even if we made some progress with repo in the next month I would still want a band and I'd be kicking myself for not having done it sooner. Plus this will give me two weeks at home with him before I have to go back to work. > > In case my last post was too long, here's a summary > of my questions. > 1.
