Meal/snack ideas

I'm about to start SCD in maybe 2 weeks now & am getting nervous. I

need ideas for my kids foods, particulary breakfast, lunch & snacks.

My oldest is ASD & has texture/sensory issues. He won't eat

anything " soupy " or requiring a spoon (he's lousy with a fork yet too).

Can people post what their kids eat & meal & snack ideas so I can form

some ideas & get ready?

Thanks very much,

Michele

I make up smoothies for breakfast. My ASD son doesn't do weird or soupy

textures either (at least not without throwing up! LOL), but he will

drink a smoothie. Especially with a brightly colored or curly straw.

It's also the only way I can get him to eat the yogurt.

I put a ripe banana, SCD legal juice or cider, homemade yogurt and

enough ice-cubes to equal the juice. If I do 1 1/2 cups of the juice

and ice, 12 oz. of yogurt (we don't have problems with that much) and 2

bananas it's enough to feed all 5 of us with a side of scrambled eggs.

I'm not an egg person and it's filling enough for me to make it through

until lunch.

For lunch you could make the chicken soup, but instead of pureeing the

carrots, just slice them. Drain the liquid off for your son and he can

eat it with a fork. Or just cook up some chicken or a hamburger patty

and serve with cooked apples, pears, green beans or whatever else (legal

of course) that he can tolerate at the moment.

For dinner we do similar to what we do for lunch, with whichever meat we

didn't have for lunch and a different fruit or vegetable. We've tried

the SCD jello, the rest of us LOVE it, but he just can't handle it yet,

it's too jiggly and makes him gag.

For snacks we usually give him a ripe banana, he just can't bring

himself to eat applesauce (which is what my other children have for a snack)

I hope this helps!

Michele,

My twin two year olds have textural issues with food as well. It has to be a

soft type texture. So, what I have to do is cook their meat, then puree it,

then mix it with whatever recipe so that it is a soft type texture, but is still

a finger food.

This is an idea of meals that my boys eat (we still have not figured out

snacks)

Breakfast:

Sneaky Veggie Pancakes

w/carrots

applesauce or yogurt

Lunch:

Avocado Meatloaf

Squash fries

Supper:

Chicken Cupcakes

Jello

All these recipes are on pecanbread.com

Hope this helps

Thank you for responding. Breakfast is still an issue for him. He

won't drink smoothies or eat eggs. He also doesn't eat bananas. I

can't give him burgers for breakfast too!

Thanks, Michele
