Guest guest
Hi Folks, One more of my questions. I am new to the board within the last week. My nickname is Boo, my real name is Becky. Does anyone have a recommendation for the best pain releif from this hideous disease? I can't go a single day without some level of pain. I have been crying for over four hours straight now with a pain scale of 9 -10 out of 10. The percocet 10/325 does not work, it barely touches the pain. It's 11:10pm here in Florida. I don't know how much longer I can do this. Any information and/or advice that you have is greatly appreciated, as I have an appointment with my pain doctor tomorrow. I'll be lucky if I make it out of bed, let alone make it to work. Boo
Guest guest
Becky, The most effective pain medication for me has been the duragesic patch. I've tried Oxycontin, Oxycontin IR, Dilaudid, Morphine, Percocet 10/325's (2 at a time), Hydrocodone and Oxycodone. Everything, just about, except Methadone, which isn't available in my state. After at least one month's trial and error with each of these meds, the duragesic patch (I now use 75 mgs.) with Oxycodone for breakthrough has worked the best for me. I used Percocet for almost two and a half years prior to this. You must remember that each individual has different reactions to medication, and what works for me may be totally unsuitable for you or someone else. I know a lot of people have allergies to certain narcotics, and can't use them at all. Then there are others who feel " wired up " with one med, like Percocet, where I could take a double-dosage and not have it affect me at all. Any change or increase in your medication should be carefully controlled by your physician, and you should be able to contact him or her on short notice if you experience any unpleasant or undesirable side effects. Hopefully the doctor that you meet with tomorrow will be helpful in setting up a good pain maintenance regimen for you, or will refer you to a Pain Management Specialist who can. Let us know how it works out tomorrow. With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep. Guest guest
Hi Boo....my name is and I'm relatively new to this awful illness as well. I take the same med as you've been prescribed and it's prescribed for " every 6 hrs as needed. " Well, for the past 4 days it's been more like every 4 hours and I'm lucky if I make past 3 1/2 hrs sometimes. I sure hope that you've gotten some relief. I've been awake (except for about 3 hrs this morning) since yesterday and haven't even gotten out of bed until now to check the posts. Please let us know how you're doing and I would be interested to hear what they give you for pain relief. I have definitely taken a turn for the worst in the last few days and have been about an inch from going to the ER except from past experience I know they won't be able to do much for me there. Please let us know when you're able to how you're doing. love and prayers to you and everyone here....I feel like this is another extended family and sometimes just knowing I'm not alone helps so much! P.S. Sorry Karyn...I just remembered to delete the original post in this message and I think I may have sent one w/o deletion of the original first!!
