Guest guest
Don't forget that some kids end up with ABPA as a result of being on Tobi for extended periods. This is Allergic Broncho Pulmonary Aspergillosis. It's a fungus that can grow in the lungs because of the favorable conditions caused by the bacteria in there being killed by the Tobi. Ricky has this and it is what landed him in the hospital a year ago (woo, it's been a year since he was in!) for two weeks, four solid days of it on continuous nebs. We treat it with Sporanox (oral antifungal) and sometimes he has to be on Orapred (steroid) for the wheezing and inflammation. ABPA is a pretty stubborn thing to try to get rid of too! On the good side... The first time Ricky cultured pseudonomnas it was when he was two and he was immediately hospitalized and put on IVs. We managed to get rid of it. Then he cultured it again at five. I'm convinced that he got it from a kid in the hospital (who he was in a room with, bad bad bad) but anyway, the major problems he's had with mainly are the ABPA and its effects. The pseudo itself hasn't affected him too much. Just my $5. Becky mom of Ricky 7 with CF and Andy 5 no CF
