Hello Jen,

I am so sorry you are both unwell and confused. I can understand

just how you feel.

As Mark says, there are a lot of things which can cause elevated

lipase. Your doc is, at least, being careful in ordering an EUS

pretty soon.

I would never advise anyone to do anything other than follow docs'

advice but you can certainly ask questions! It is worth remembering

that you can have tests which don't show up actual pancreatic damage

even if you have some forms of pancreatitis. I'm NOT saying this is

your case but it's just worth remembering. In 1988 my CT scan and

ERCP showed nothing definite despite the fact that I was desperately

ill at the time. In 2003, I finally had tests which DID show up

extensive damage.

Of course, I'm in no way indicating that this might happen in your

case but I think I'd still persist in pushing for futher tests and

monitoring.

I have no idea why they are waiting before removing the gall bladder

but it would be perfectly reasonable to ask!

Please don't be discouraged but continue to ask those questions. We

sometimes feel overwhelmed in hospital or with doctors and don't

always think of everything we want to know until after the

appointment! I'd write everything down before you meet your doc the

next time. I have a notebook in which I jot down questions as they

occur to me. That way I can quickly get together all my queries the

evening before an appointment. It's important never to feel that

anything is too simple, basic, obvious or anything else, to ask the

doc about. That's largely what they're there for. I'm sure that your

doctor would welcome your questions.

I do wish you luck, Jen, and hope things improve very soon. Maybe

you could see your doc sooner rather than later?

With very good wishes,

Fliss (UK)
