Is a certain amount of diahrea normal in the first week or two on SCD

as a result of " die off " , or would it be a food reaction?

My ASD son has mushy stools that are similar to what he's had in past

when having die off, but I can never be sure. It'd be impossible for

me to know if his stools are a " log " as he goes in a diaper & it gets

mushed before I get to it. I'm having a hard time judging this. Also,

activated charcoal has helped his behavior immensely (total meltdown

the other day before it), so again that seems to signal die off to me.

My daughter is also in diaper & she has what seems to be a mushy stool.

The baby has formed stools but he's having other forms of die off -

diaper rash, slight eczema breakout, runny nose, etc.

I'm trying to wait for the perfect stools to introduce more foods but

not sure how to judge this. When should I *expect* stools to be

totally " normal " ?

Thanks again, Michele

Well..... mushy poop is not diarrhea. Diarrhea would be pretty much liquid....

and quite frequent.

Loose-ish or mushy stools are pretty common in the beginning. One week on SCD

is definitely too soon to expect solid, formed, " perfect " BMs .... aka

" trophies " around here. :)

It's impossible for us to say " when " you will see trophy poops... it may take

many weeks. It's different for every individual and depends on the extent of the

bacterial colonies, gut dysbiosis and damage to the intestinal tract.

Patience, my dear.....

So since it's not true " diahrea " , I can introduce new foods a little

at a time? (not wait for that " trophy " , in other words...)

Thanks, Michele

Only thing I *might* be able to pinpoint at this time are baked

pears. Both my ASD son & the baby got stubborn diaper rashes shortly

after we had pears. They had little, & there were none after that

day, but the rashes still took a couple more days to leave. In fact

baby's is hanging on a bit yet. That was several days ago, so maybe

it was just die off... I find that a bit confusing yet. Their foods

are so basic, plain, & cooked so far.

Thanks, Michele

observe any changes.... you certainly don't want things to get

worse.... so you need to know which food is causing what so you can

easily pull it back out if need be.

starting with veggies and fruits that are generally easier to digest

(ie; no broccoli or cabbage, etc.).
