Guest guest
Hi Carol and all, I am honored that I represent myself like a veteran. But this, I know I am not. This is not my intentions. I want all to know that I am still learning too. This last crises, I did spend much time off serve talking to Mimi, Lucy R, and others. Whenever we have a crises with Kiki, I don't even doubt myself...I begin to doubt Elaine and SCD. Every time realizing that it was NOT SCD...that we messed up some how. This time it was the raw apples and carrots. According to Elaine's book she should be ready. But she is not. I can guess to why though. And it is not Elaine's error! It was ours. Yes, possibly because in the last 8 months we messed up with carageenan in the dairy, polysorbate 80 in her vitamins, juice that is not truly legal, protease in the enzymes too soon (she still had undiagnosed ulcerations and had no business using them), an antifungal treatment that almost hospitalized her, strange sensitivities to " legal " citric acid in the pineapple, and giving her raw carrots and nut candy too soon. For Kiki, everything has to be legal and Elaine approved.....and even this isn't all we have to worry about. Like you Carol she is truly sensitive. It is imperative that I keep a journal with her. Still have much to learn about her sensitivities. But, thankfully SCD is getting rid of some of them, so we don't have to feed her just dirt. This is why I have become such an Elaine fanatic fearing anything that is not mentioned in the BTVC book. WE can not financially afford for her to be hospitalized. Any crises is truly devastating to us financially. Everyone in our family, but Kiki has gone by the book as far as the time frame that Elaine lays out. Kiki was obviously more sick and more sensitive than the rest of us. Without medical confirmation and endoscopies, we will never know the degree of her intestinal disease. But can only assume that it must have been pretty bad. But for now, you are right. I will rely on the old timers even more. But when ever I do feel that I have experience strength and hope I enjoy sharing. Our testimony is not chopped liver. I have already saved many e-mails saying thank you for helping. Several of these " thank yous " are from Mimi her self. I can't wait for Kiki to stabilize like Lucy (since she too had IBD), so that we can get my book finally published. Now about the yeast and how we have had success with getting it under better control. For those who worry that they might have to use supplements and prescriptions to kill the yeast. I wanted to share that Kiki did not have to use them (this is only from our experience, this may not be yours). Kiki came very yeast infected. Thrush infections, even chronic sore throats, deliriums from the toxins, yeasty diaper rashes, diarrhea, fungal infections even on her scalp, vaginal yeast, malabsorption you name it. She was being consumed by it. She could not tolerate the enzymes that " digest " yeast or antifungals at all (this does not mean that your child won't). But I do suggest to be wary. We simply had to trust Elaine's book. By just doing intro and following the guidelines in the book and by doing what Elaine says: cutting down honey to 1/3, halving the juice with water (making sure that it is legal juice), being careful introducing foods that are higher in carbohydrate, such as fruit....her CDSA has proudly came back saying: " YEAST FEW " YEAH!!! Elaine wins the game again! I was told that you can never get rid of every single one of them, that in low numbers that the other good gut flora keeps the yeast at bay. This is why we feed her goat yogurt and give her acidophilus. The good gut bugs in the stuff, fight this war too. I also wanted to share that her CDSA results showed that her bifidus (without taking any in supplement form, since Elaine says it is not safe) came back beautifully balanced! Her lactoferin and lysomes are still too high, indicating that she has IBD (inflammatory bowl disease), and proving to me that 8 months is not enough to heal the gut completely. Especially with the mess ups we have done! But I knew this. Elaine said a minimum of two years just for CD. I have since learned that for IBD it is even longer... With infractions and advanced foods too soon, God knows how long. Her tongue is no longer coated white, her deliriums are gone, her diaper rashes are gone. She is no longer a " foggy " sleepy child. Her pot belly is gone. She is clearly a differently child. We do have to ask for help though...so everyone....I thank you for your advice. Keep giving it. I appreciate all of you! I could not have done this by myself! We will wait to give Kiki coconut and other advanced foods, when she has healed significantly longer! Maybe like you Carol...six years. Nothing is worse than seeing your child in pain. Truly gives humility to any parent. And yes, feeding five like this all at different stages has not been easy to " moderate " . But I think that we are all on the same page now. To make sure that Kiki does NOT receive any " advanced foods " ...no one is allowed to eat them when she is in the room. " mom's rules " ...or they get banned to the dog house or kicked to the curb! We are no longer leaving her with anyone that does not completely understand this diet and respect it either. From one wary, weary mom that is now getting more sleep because Elaine is saving the day with Kiki again.........she is doing much better, last night she slept!!!! Her poop is firming up. The dark circles under her eyes are now gone. YEAH!!!!!...thank all for your prayers and support! Sincerely, Antoinette and family of five (SCD 2/06) Parents to Kiki-2 (autistic, IBD, cd)
