Guest guest
-The weight issue is very hard. My son is 4 years old and just reached 31 1/2 lbs. His weight dropped way before the diet. I just keep in my mind a vision of feeding gross yeast in his stomach with the - the starches other people tell me to fatten him up with. Then when I offer vegs and fruit and meat as the diet I do the oppisite and vision the bad stuff being starved out and his body being nourished. I look at him and see his color looking better his calf muscle have started to form. I just try to keep the sight of him playing sports in school. That has helped me so much. When I switched my mind set of yes we had to paddle backwards a couple of times to get forward it helped. I thought was never going to gain he looked like a ALien with a big head and no body. But we made it through those first coulple of struggling weeks and he gained 2lbs in one week and grew an inch over a month. Just keep it up things will change. -- In pecanbread , stellachop wrote: > > We tried this diet in the summer, and then postponed it until now > because there were too many infractions with unsupportive relatives > visiting. > > Anyways, my daughter (3 1/2) has now been on the diet for a week. Guest guest
Hi there, Yes, in the beginning we all lost a bit. We are a family of five that are doing SCD because of CD and a multitude of neurological reasons. Our daughter also could not afford to loose. But after two months started to thrive in a way that we never saw with other ways of eating. The doctor was amazed at the change in her growth curve. Even though she was still thin compared to her height, there was improvement! I truly think that it was becasue we " pooped " it out. During die off we all " cleaned out " , so to speak. This couldn't help but be a factor in our initial weight loss. All of us had " flatter tummies " after the first two months transitioning on to SCDiet...I think it was because we where no longer bloated and fermenting all those " bad gut bugs " as much! Which also can't help but accounts for some of the initial wieght loss. Also try feeding her eight times a day, instead of the typical three times a day. Add oils such as Coconut oil, and take other suggestion from those here on how to gain wieght. ONLY eat those SCD foods that are easy to digest, such as peeled and cooked in the beginning. The stages under preperation are helpful to some. Do not jump like we did to advanced foods too soon. This also contributed to our duaghter being so thin. She gained the best on SCD when we ate easy to digest, peeled and cooked foods, while also using the goat yogurt. This was practicing 100% adherance and not allowing the grandparents or others to distroy our SCD success. Which they tried. Tell your family that it is " medical necessity " ...this may get their attention! You may find that enyzmes could be helpful. We don't know yet if they will be for us or not. We are getting ready to try them again but with more precaustions since our daughter came with significant intestinal damage. Some say that enzymes can help children with malabsorption gain weight. The rest of us in the family do not show signs of malabsorption any more. But she is the only one that does still...but truly much improved! Yet, this is why we are going to try the enzymes with her. I will be taking them also to, to see if my health can improve even more also. Let it be known that I have gained significantly on the SCDiet. I arrived in a downward spiral loosing weight frightenly so. Thanks to CD no responding to the gluten free diet....I have now gained 18 pounds after " fanatical adhearance " to the SCDiet for seven and a half months! I also lost weight in the beginning that scared me! So try not to worry as long as you are doing everything correctly. Hope this helps you, Antoinette (celiac) mom to Kiki-2 asd/celiac SCD 2/
Guest guest
A new food every day is too frequent. You need to add a new food every couple of days to be able to make sure that she can tolerate the food. Sometimes, a person might not have a reaction to a new food for a day or more. Many people do lose weight initially on scd, but she should stabilize and gain back shortly. Meleah scd 05/06 iel 3.5yrs. asd, Ethan 5yrs., Mark 18mths. Help!
