Dairy is not mandatory on SCD. If you read our links about yogurt you will understand why we praise it so highly. As damaged guts begin to heal, the yogurt has been found to be well tolerated by children whose parents were originally very fearful of it. If you decline to use yogurt which has a beneficial probiotic effect we have salternatives like homemade nut milk and fermented vegetables but nothing supplies billions of friendly bacteria like SCD yogurt. Some of the casein gets denatured in the fermentation process. It may be something you can choose to try in a tiny amount at a later date. We can get compounded pain killers without illegal ingredients. I use acetominiphen but I believe ibuprofen is better for children. Soemone else will comment on this.Yeast can be dealt with my minimizing the use of honey and fruit and taking supplements to counter it. Carol F. Guest guest
, Please go to www.pecanbread.com and read through all the sections thoroughly. Have you read the book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle? SCD is gluten free by default.... because it is completely grain free, so there is no worry there. Many families here begin SCD without using any dairy. There are tips and recipes on the website that can help you. Did you begin SCD with the " intro diet " ? How long have they been on the diet? Is the twins' doctor the one who suggested you start SCD? You say you are using lots of nuts? In what form? Nut butters? Nut flours? Beginners should not use whole nuts. You'll want to be sure your yeast treatment prescription has no illegal starches in it. The children's Tylenol or Motrin liquids have illegal sugars and starches. I personally just grind up a regular adult Tylenol tablet (one regular strength tablet is the correct dosage for MY daughter... age 10, 69 lbs)... and mix it with applesauce. I try to only give a pain reliever or fever reducer when absolutely necessary. You can also have those medications made up by a compounding pharmacy, if need be. Tylenol is hard on the liver, they say... and not so great for children with autism. Ibuprofen (Motrin) is terrible for the gut. So, only use either of them when you MUST. Patti autism..casien/gluten & sc diet? I just started my twins w/autism (7yrsold) ON THE SC DIET..ITS VERY CONFUSING...i need to also implement the casien & gluten free? sc diet contains yogurts and goats milk...what should i do? how should i start...i made the chicken stock w/carrots lots of nuts...and lunch steak or chicken and peppers, onion, zuccini..thats all they eat for now until i figure out this diet.... & what they can eat....both boys have yeast...they are in treatment......how about tylenol and motrin? i'm sure it has sugar....plz help.. Guest guest
Welcome to the group , > I just started my twins w/autism (7yrsold) ON THE SC DIET..ITS VERY > CONFUSING...i need to also implement the casien & gluten free? sc diet > contains yogurts and goats milk...what should i do? You can do the diet either with dairy or without. The choice is yours http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#intro (dairy free) http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/beginners.htm (intro with dairy) >how should i start Some tips for transitioning to the SCD: http://pecanbread.com/foodprep.html#transition ....i made the chicken stock w/carrots lots of nuts...and lunch > steak or chicken and peppers, onion, zuccini..thats all they eat for > now until i figure out this diet ..... & what they can eat....both boys > have yeast... Please see " Yeast and SCD " file at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ ......how about tylenol and motrin? Ibuprofen is better for ASD kids. Some get it compounded others use the regular stuff. Whichever you are able to do. If you use the adult ibuprofen ask the pharmacist first if you can use a portion of a dose for your children (eg. half a tablet ground up). Guest guest
- I was apprehensive about adding dairy coming from gf/cf, but we did eventually add the goat's yogurt and cheese crackers using goat cheese. Both have been well tolerated. The symptoms of spaciness that my son had on cow's milk have not returned, nor have the loose stools.
