Guest guest
Hi Faith-- I went through this as well when my LO first got the band. I was convinced that it was the beginning of skin breakdown and kept the band off quite a bit. It turned out that it was heat rash. The thing that I neglected to understand at first is that it is an adjustment period, so keep that in mind. A lot of it is your instinct. We ended up having to use hydrocotrizone cream for a few days in the beginning, and that helped. What helped us was to remove the band and wipe down the sweat and just having him wear it and adjust to it. We kept him in very light clothing--only a short sleeved onsie at night and left the ceiling fan on. Because the spots are fading, I think it might be related to hot spots versus any breakdown, but hard to tell without seeing them. So, go with what feels right for tonight, and if it's convinient, take them into CT in the morning to have them take a look. If you can, have them in the bands at least for a bit prior so that they can see the type of spots you are getting. During that adjustment period, they did shave down a couple spots that were getting really red. Hang in there, I know how worrisome it can be, and you have that times two . Work with CT to get the right fit, and their bodies really will adjust. H. > > Tonight is the first night for my twins Paige and Chase in their DOC > Bands. Guest guest
Hi - We noticed similar problems with Lucy with red spots not fading over an hour even during her first few days when she was only wearing it 2 or 4 hours at a time - I went straight over to Hanger and he shaved down those areas and we haven't had a problem since. I would have CT just check it out - it's better to get it looked at I think than risk skin breakdown. But also, go with your mommy instinct - that is normally the best indicator! - Meg, mom to Lucy STARband day #5 > > Tonight is the first night for my twins Paige and Chase in their DOC > Bands. Guest guest
Hi, We had same problem for our son during the first few days as well. After 3 hr trial period there were some red spots on theh side of his head they wouldn't go away within an hour. Do call CT ASAP; they usually expect this kind of situation at the beginning and they are very good at making last miniute appointments. I went there EVERY DAY for the first three days, each time the clinician marked those areas with lipstick and adjusted the band. Each time she re-assured us that it's normal and we were doing the right thing keep coming back for adjustment. The band is designed to apply gentle pressure on the head so they are very conservative about it when it's first made, only adjust it according to the red spots. So don't worry it's normal. We also had one terrible night at the beginning. My son developed heat rash during the middle of the night and he started to scratch and cry. We immediately took it off (and left it off for the rest of the night). We also used hydrocotrizone cream to ease the rash. The next day I went to CT again; the clinician told me to dress him one layer, lower the temperature of the room. I wasn't willing to do that because it's winter time but I followed the instruction. We saw great improvement after that. A week later after he got used to the band and we gradually dress him more but for our poor babies they really need to be kept cool~~ I got pretty worried at the beginning because I felt that I couldn't even keep the 3 hr on 1 hr off protocol, how am I supposed to have it on him 23 hr! Then the clinician told me it's OK to take a few days to adjust per our own pace. I didn't put the band on him the first two nights, I left it off whenever I felt the skin breakdown isn't go away. But on the 4th day everything went normal and he stopped sweating. From there it's smooth sailing~ So just hang in there and it will get better!
