I do feel genuine joy when a pre-op gets approved and when I hear of a post-op who's doing well, I just know what this life of obesity is like and the kind of hell it can be health wise and emotionally. Sometimes I get a little twinge of " why couldn't my insurance have come through " or why everyone else and not me, " but then I just stop and tell myself that everyone here is as deserving of this surgery as I am and that takes those twinges away. I'm sorry that you have been diagnosed with that. It's awful to say but, it might help lean you Ins. Co. your way. It's terrible that Ins. companies don't see how this surgery can help and that many of the physical problems that we will wind up with will cost them more in the long run. Didn't you say that you worked at Catawba Memorial? I didn't realize they did any type of surgery like that there!! Again Thanks for you kind words. I appreciate it!!! Guest guest
hey Cathy, great to read your encouraging and kind words once again. It amazes me how supportive you are to other preops and happy for those on the other side; as for myself, it's hard not to be envious of those who easily are approved by their insurance. I cannot afford to be a self-pay so I plan on battling with our insurance co (or I should say my employer since we are self-insured). I had a sleep study done Friday nite, and I have not received the formal ready from the doc, but I was told to plan on returning to be fitted for cpap as I did have more than 30 episodes op apnea. That, along with high blood pressure and other comorbidities should help me get approved. It's ironic, I work in a hospital where a surgeon has done 4 open rny's, I hope that somehow I can use that in part of my argument if I have to appeal before a board. if anyone has any suggestions for those self-insured, please pass them along. again cathy, glad to have you back...you were missed these past few days.
