Prof Neoptolemos promotes taking a healthy diet, and adjusting pancreatic enzymes, accordingly. Dear Sue, Yes, I am aware of Professor Neoptolemos' recommendations. Fliss sees him also, and told us about his philosophy. While my personal gastroenterologist isn't exactly a leading expert in the States, he does follow the guidelines of what MOST leading experts in this country teach and recommend, which is to reduce our fat and protein comsumption. Personally, I still believe I'm getting an adequate amount of fat in my diet of 30 grams or less per day. And, I know that even with taking enzyme tablets containing 100,000 units lipase, 325,000 amylase and 350,000 units protease at a meal, if that meal is too high in fat content, I will be in severe pain afterwards. Even the highest amount of enzymes I've taken won't cover the after-meal pain I've encountered from a butter sauce, or a standard size filet mignon! Many doctors here don't even prescribe as many enzymes as I take, anyhow. Regardless of our doctor's differences of opinion's, I do think it's a matter of personal diet and physical capabilities. If you can eat 80+ grams of fat a day (this is the amount that Fliss said Neoptolemos recommended), without any problems afterwards, that's delightful, and I can't say I'm not envious! And I certainly wouldn't tell you you're wrong for doing so. After all, you're following your doctor's orders, and so am I. In that sense, we're both being compliant patients.(smile) With love, hope and prayers, Heidi Heidi H. Griffeth South Carolina SC & SE Regional Rep.
