Dear ,

I never thanked you for forwarding the list comments about ENBREL. I was

especially interested to learn that one lister said that it stopped working

after 9 months or so.

I have been eating grapefruit because I thought it was a " fat burner. " As

it turns out it is one food that has significant drug interactions and the

list members should be aware of this.

My doc never warned me about it -- I don't know that it was ever something

that either of us ever thought about up so I can't blame her. It really is

a big surprise to learn that we shouldn't eat grapefruit!!

I have had an elevated cholesterol for the last year and it suddenly shot up

again. I can't help but wonder if it was because of the grapefruit

interaction with the Zocor that I take. I always get a printout of

interactions and side effects with my Zocor but I have never read it

carefully. I don't know if Grapefruit is mentioned there.

One thing I saw at the site under the " therepeutics " link is that if you

have always taken your medicine with grapefruit juice you should not stop

doing that without discussing it with your doctor.

Other drugs I saw on the list of interactions that may be on the list of RP

drugs are immunosuppressants. Oral cyclosporine is one of them. I believe I

also saw cholchine (? spelling?) there.

There is also some interaction with certain antihistamines (Seldane) and

other fairly common medicines as well as with some heart medicines.

The web site is worth a visit and printout of all the pages there to study

off line. It is a page for pharmacists and doctors so the text is pretty

technical. Just look for anything related to your medicines. There is a

search engine there but when I entered my medicine it only came up with a

price of $98 per 100 (compared to $340 in my local drugstore) from Canadian

mail order companies. I will have to check what they charge for Renova

prescription retinol!

That was ve-ry interestink! (:-)))
