I would give her a few more chances. I'm not impressed with most peds in terms of plagio awareness. -christine sydney, 3.5yrs, starband grad > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
, In my opinion, NO YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! I'd be a lot more than " slightly offended. " I'm at a loss to understand why so many peds are against cranial banding. I would switch peds as many times as necessary until I found one who's philosophy was more in line with my own. You're doing what's best for ! 3mm of growth is great progress in just over a month. Don't let anyone make you second guess yourself! GOOD LUCK! We look forward to 's graduation photos! :-) Jo Anne > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
All she cares about is the status quo? What kind of doctor is that? Is she going to say not to care if your child is overweight, because after all most kids are these days? A lot of people have Type 2 diabetes too. Is that okay too? My brother is a doctor (internist) and I have asked him about the bozo attitudes of pediatricians. He says that they are trained to see their job as one of maintenance. Most kids are usually healthy, so there's not much to do but take measurements here and there and make reassuring comments to worried moms. (In fact we had a pediatrician---who I hated---who actually said " my job is to calm down worried moms " .) But this philosophy is really not appropriate these days (if it ever was). Now with BTS, lots of kids have are are developing plagio---a real problem. With all the junk food out there, lots of kids are getting too fat---another problem. With a failing educational system, lots of kids are graduating from high school without being able to add fractions---also a problem! Okay, I think you should get another pediatrician, but it might not be so easy to find a good one. Maybe a family doctor is the way to go. Anyway, I think it's great that you are banding your daughter now and wonderful to hear that you've already had some progress. > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
yep, the only other thing i found peds good for was parenting advicem mind you they take only 1 class on child development and even experts disagree on what isd the best parenting style so i dont really find them qualified to do so (especially if they have less kids than i do, and i have 5 so that is most of them) and most times their parenting style is not the same as mine. i find going to a family doctor very different than when we went to peds. i think they are more thorough medically, less parenting advice and listen to the parents more but at the same time i think something subtle in development lag could be missed b/c they dont ask as many development questions. that said my family doc worries more about them so follows up and charts everything whereas the previous 2 peds missed significant delays in my 9 yr old so i guess the lack of questions doesnt necesarily mean they are paying any less attn they may just observe more? with my 9 yr old who saw one ped until 3 and another practice until 5, both missed significant delays. the family doctor was on my sons speech delay from 12 mo and referred us at 18 mo. the peds i was able to get an audiology referrel from when i asked about the 9 yr olds speech delay but when it came back fine they told me not to worry that shed catch up. which kept her from starting speech until 3½ (when i found help myself) On Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 12:43 PM, sadietheseamstrix <sadietheseamstrix@...> wrote: All she cares about is the status quo? Guest guest
I think you need to find another pediatrician. I had to go through four before I found the perfect one for me and my family. You need some one you can trust and that takes your concerns serious. Keep looking and good luck. Guest guest
Thanks for all the comments, everyone! We had progress pics taken yesterday at CT (will post once they email them to me and get me the analysis) and all seems to be going really well. My husband takes her to those appointments since they are in Austin and we live in San (while I handle the other in-town appts). They don't tell us numbers of assymetry or anything, so I don't know how that all works out, but hubby stated last night that you could really tell there was some improvement when you see her head compared to her mold from the beginning. I'm going to give this ped two more chances, and I have a feeling that I'm still not going to like her. Then I'll do as I wanted to from the onset and take her to the GP that hubby and I see. He caught a coworker's father's prostate cancer before the oncologist thought he might have through routine tests and he watches several different things in hubby and I to make sure they don't change from year to year; I trust him, in short. Either way- please let me know if anyone has any more thoughts! Very helpful to my psyche!! Guest guest
That makes me upset. I think we are advocates for our children and should do what's right for us. My first ped told me it would round out and he had extremely severe plagio. Just to let you know, since I know a lot of parents respect Dr. Bob Sears, who is now my ped, when we switched to him, he told me to go to CT asap. He said it does not round out and it must be done asap. We are very grateful b/c our son is now normal. Dr. Bob told us plagio is a serious concern, shouldn't be taken lightly, needs to be treated and will not round out. I have a lot of respect for our ped and grateful to him for the great results that we have had with our son. Do what you need to do for your child regardless of what some uninformed doctors say. I am glad I switched doctors. As a side note, I was upset with the Fields who wrote, " Baby Bargains " , they dismissed plagio in their 411 Book and said that parents should " Save the helmet for the bike " . I complained as did others and they said they would look into it and possibly change it in future editions. It's important to let people know when they are obviously wrong. I, for one, will not buy any more books from the Fields as long as they give advice to millions of parents that are irresponsible. > > > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
Thank you for the note on the 411 Book! I have this book and have bought it for other Moms. I had NOT read the helmet comment, or if I had, maybe it was before my daughter was born and I educated myself about plagio, but knowing what I know now, I agree with you 100%....I will not buy another Fields book until they retract that statement and update their future editions. I urge all other families on this group to spread the word! Thank you for bringing this to my attention!!! > > > > > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > > > > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday. Guest guest
This is the string I am referring to. I was so disgusted that I never bought a book. I don't know if it was ever changed. http://www.windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=323357 > > > > > > > > I'm slightly disturbed...and want to know if I'm crazy.... > > > > > > > > I switched pediatricians recently and we had our first visit on Friday.
